We learn in this episode that Zuko truly has no real devotion to the fire nation. Sure, he's devoted to his honor and throne as the crowned prince, but more so in idealism than in reality and practice.

2 in a day! Awesome! Its never overtly stated in the show, but I've always felt like Zuko is so skilled at martial arts and swordsmanship because he isn't as talented a bender initially. Remember that in chapter 1, Iroh was still going over the basics with him. Its almost as if he was shoring up his bending with other skills to compensate.
