Without the avatar, the human world and spirit world has had no contact for a hundred years, and now they have trouble understanding each other's motivation and trusting each other. Maybe the episode could have talked about that directly, but then we'd have to have more guilt for Aang for running away and the show has enough of that as it is, and it's showing it implicitly pretty well anyway. The spirit doesn't care about human suffering, the humans see no other solution than try to outwit him, they get their knowledge at a terrible price - Appa - and the disconnect between humans and spirits deepens. Hardly a harmless outcome I think.

I agree. And I think they should have faced actual punishment, I wish the spirit didn't just immediately decide to destroy the repository of knowledge. It seems wrong both ways.

I find that I cannot go fullscreen in the Patreon app, but when you open the link in safari you can. There is a button on the top right (on iPad at least).

Really enjoying these, wish I could view it full screen on my iPhone. If anyone knows a way to I’d be very happy to hear it

I don't like how they try to make Aang seem justified or sokka for that matter Wan was correct in his actions and should in fact have never allowed them in in the first place. Now the avatar has created an enemy of a spirit of knowledge. Given how dangerous spirits have been shown to be if you piss them off this seems like a stupid thing to do.

Carth Onasi from Kotor/Kaiden Alenko from Mass Effect. Love.

Always loved this episode. Wan Shi Tong if that is how you spell it, is a great character. Kind of sucks now that since that avatar lied to him outright the library is now completely gone from the mortal realm. Clearly humans are not ready for knowledge yet.

Yes his name is Raphael Sbarge, he does alot of voice acting too, he was also Carth Onasi in the KOTOR games and also he was in a couple Voyager episodes

This episode always makes me sad for obvious reasons but can we talk about the creativity of people when it comes to bending? So far we've seen water benders that adapted to the swamp, Iroh bending lightning, and earth benders that adapted to the desert. How cool is that?!
