Completely off-topic, but at the start of the episode I literally could not stop staring at Katrina's eyeliner. I could only ever hope to achieve such a perfect cat-eye. This DW episode wasn't my favorite during my initial watch, but watching it again with Paula and Katrina has definitely made me appreciate it a lot more.

We're not fully aware how the conversion was actually executed. What we do know is that it wasn't done by sane (relative) daleks from outside the asylum. So either the nano cloud did it, which seems ulikely to me, or malfunctioning/insane daleks did it, which could be an explanation for them not caring about racial purity. Another explanation is that DW always plays it loose with continuity. I have long since made peace with the fact that the rules of a particular story does not apply to others.

Perfect way to spend the afternoon on my birthday. Thanks for the watch alongs and i hope everyone here has a fantastic day.

That was a good episode, but the thing that doesn't work for me is the full Dalek conversion. one of the Daleks most defining quality is racial purity, I can buy the human puppets as strategic assets, but full conversion is something that is literally against their religion. this episode would have worked better with cybermen I think.

"Run you clever boy, and remember." So, so, so epic. One of those lines that pop up in my mind on the regular, regardless of how long it's been since I've watched this.

I straight up named my character Oswin back when I played fallout 4. I still have that save file, actually. This is the amount of nerd I am, :P

I've just finished rewatching Rose 1x01 Mickey was a waste of space. personally I did not find him annoying, he did not make that much of an impression on me. I just limited myself to taking the mick out off him. Paula made me smile when she saw the control room of the Tardis for the first time. A more perfect definition of the word "Gobsmacked" I couldn't find

I disagree. It's not that she doesn't know that, it's because of that. She knows how much he loves her, but she wants him to have everything, she knows how much having kids meant to him, but she also knows he would always choose her over his own happiness. She gave him up at the cost of her own happiness in the hope he could find happiness again. There is a difference. My issue is that in "Pond Life", at the end, it's Amy that says "Doctor, where are you? We need you/" to herself at the end, which, considering that it was her that drove Rory out, doesn't quite fit.

2021 got a little bit better with the return of the Gallifrey Gals watching .... who? ERROR. DATABASE NOT FOUND.

I love your rambling pre-show conversations. The joys of Patreon. :)

I feel like an alternate title for this episode could be The Tragedies of Amy and Oswin. It's such a sad episode that it's hard for me to go back to it. The reveal about Amy and the reveal about Oswin are both heartbreaking. How cool is it that Firefly gifted Paula with a Noel Clarke Cameo! I was surprised at how soft-spoken and personable he is. He's the kind of guy I'd like to hang out and play some video games with. One thing to note is that Cameo is great for Star Trek actors, but it's not so great for Doctor Who actors. The only Doctor on Cameo is Sylvester McCoy, and Noel Clarke is the only companion on Cameo out of the ones you've been introduced to up to this point. But who knows? That could change in the future.

Kimbell is a reference to a 1st Doctor Story The Dalek's Master Plan.

The Second Doctor visited the Earth Colony Vulcan during his first episode (The Power of the Daleks). It was written and produced before Star Trek solidified the planet Vulcan as part of their Canon. The Episode is mostly lost due to the BBC wiping tapes from that era.

Maybe the best way to put it is they touted the casting of Jenna Coleman, only to kill her off right away, kind of like they did with Kylie Minogue. When I saw what they did to Oswin, I realized their clever ploy to sow doubt about spoilers in the future and genuinely surprise us.

And I'm sorry, but Amy's logic pisses me off. She basically proved that Rory loves her more than she loves him because if she truly loved him as much as she claimed, she'd KNOW that he'd rather have her than a dozen kids. She is more important to him than having children. The fact that she doesn't know that shows that she has never taken the time to truly get to know him.

Opti_Frog

Squee! Imo, the Oswin-dalek reveal is as dark as DW ever got. Excellent episode all round and great reaction.

Love Oswin so much.

WhoIamisme

Great episode, 🥴

Yep it is here. Season 7 begins and I have to say at the time and now it feels like a strong open.
