Have you watched any of the original series Trek or the movies? When Re-watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture I was reminded just how much of what was done in Next Gen was based off of set ideas and themes from the movies. Even the opening music for Next Gen was a version of the motion picture's theme. There's also more than one character in the original series and movies that make appearances in Next Generation.

Diana Muldaur 1st appeared in Star Trek in the episode Return To Tomorrow as Astro-biologist Lt. Cmdr / Dr Ann Mulhall. ( for some reason Diana was dressed in a red ? As an Astro-biologist I think she should have been in Science blue.)

I might be wrong, but I don't think Katrina is going to like the new doctor. But that may just be my bias bleeding into it (because she's probably my least favorite character). But hey, Whoopi Goldberg! I won't give away anything about the character she's playing. I'll just say that her character is probably my third favorite TNG character after Data and Picard. I really like her and I think Katrina will too.

SPOILER POSSIBILITY 4; Paula, you should have tempered Katrina's disappointment by saying the change was only for a season. Once the writer that McFadden was clashing with left, Patrick Stewart convinced Gates to come back.

I guess Levar Burton and Whoopi were friends. When Levar told the show runners that Whoopi wanted to be on the show, they didn't believe him at first! They thought she was too big of a star to be interested in TNG

I love every Star Trek out there, and Dr Crusher to death; but here's one of my most controversial opinions: I think Dr Pulaski is the better doctor :O A credit to Diana Muldaur who is a fantastic actress!
