Eva is a corner stone of the giant robot genre. It's like Eva, Gundam, Mech Warrior, and Robotech I think. Of course the genre has bloomed into a wide variety of shows and movies and games with all sorts of variations on the trope, often merging into the Kaiju genre.

I hate to be the "Umm Actually..." guy but I don't neccesarily believe the Mechs in NGE count as Giant Robots, as they are "bio-mechanical. Giant Robots makes me think of traditional mechs like Gundam.

I'm less than 2 minutes in but I just gotta pause, it's Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's a giant robot anime from the 90s, and I'm so happy I got that just from Katrina reading the title!
