I remember hearing about that. It's clear that wasn't the Doctor's intention, but it's also clear it was technically sexual assault. It was also clear that Jenny was quite able to handle any unwanted attention from the Doctor, or anyone else for that matter. She's such a badass.

Interestingly enough, in fandom at the time this episode came out, there was quite a lot of push-back and backlash about the Eleventh Doctor kissing Jenny, as it was seen as sexual assault. I personally don't think it was intended that way and I liked it myself, but I also can see what put people off about it, as it was non-consensual. Still, Jenny decked him pretty hard for it, so there's that. :)

Just to add to the Sherlockian vibe of this episode- in "The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez," Watson lists some of Holmes' cases that he hasn't published for various reasons. Among them is "the repulsive story of the red leech."

(As I mentioned before, Rachael Sterling is awesome in 'Tipping the Velvet' -- and definitely worth ALL THE THIRST in that, especially when she's in drag. It's a Victorian lesbian/queer romance that was originally a book, but made into a British miniseries years ago. Not sure if it's streaming anywhere -- I have it on DVD -- but it's well worth a watch! Can't wait to watch this reaction! I love both Dame Diana Rigg and her daughter Rachael Stirling (the latter, of course, claimed my queer heart in 'Tipping the Velvet'). <3 <3 Plus, I love that Gatiss fixes a lot of his usual writing issues in this one (most importantly not sidelining the female characters or 'damsel-ing' them -- which he basically does with the fainting guy, Mr Thursday, instead). He's still not my fave writer for Doctor Who, but this is probably my fave story of his.

I more thought of the Doctor and RIver's relationship as an open marriage. River does her own thing and the Doctor does his own thing but when they're together, then they're together until they have to come apart again for whatever reason.

I absolutely love the late great Dame Diana Rigg. I love watching her in anything she's in. You probably already knew this; but, if you really want to see her in a blast from the past, watch her in a 60s British program called The Avengers. She was in it with an ctor called Patrick MacNee, and the characters names were Emma Peele and John Steed. I am sure you would like to hear Emma dressed in tight form fitting leather suits just like Jenny. LOL 😁😁

Oh *man*, I can't tell you how much I appreciated the recognition of the fact that the Doctor is at most a widower who should be allowed to find companionship (no pun intended) and partnership with someone else. That felt so good. I was getting very concerned that it would be like the way it was with y'all at first a lot longer than it actually was. Love it.

Anything with the Paternoster Gang (Madam Vastra and co) is a joy to watch. And Diana Riggs as Mrs Gilliflower really steals the show. Jenny's catsuit fight scene is in fact homage to one of Diana Riggs' earliest roles as the stunning Mrs Peel in the thriller adventure series The Avengers- https://youtu.be/kCRUEf8Xa-s (this clip is dubbed into German, but it doesn't matter as you get the idea). RIP Dame Diana, she was and is a national treasure!

One thing I always try to remember about the Doctor (esp. Matt Smith) is that he is not human, at his core he is an alien, a stranger to our society and that sometimes his choices remain outside the socially accepted norms of our time. Thats why we are always surprised when his behavior doesnt sync up with our expectations. Also, he has lived so so many different human eras where norms have changed, 100 years forward or 100 years back what was socially acceptable becomes odd or taboo & vice versa.

Dame Diana Rigg was one of the great British actresses of her generation. If you want to see a beautiful, sexy woman in a cat suit, Google her name and Avengers (not the Marvel one). She was an icon of the swinging 60's, one of the first badass female heros! This was the only appearance she made with her daughter before her death last year.
