The final shot of the ship was the original film elements, but season 4 was also outsourced to another VFX company, so theirs will look different than those done by CBS Digital. Which fortunately after season 4, is the rest of the series. :D

Paula hit the nail on the head in regard to the importance of new fans, like Katrina, watching from episode one. It’s very easy for some cynical fans, who have already watched TNG in its entirety, to tell newbies to skip the first two seasons, but that’s like telling someone to start reading a book in the middle, because “that’s where it gets good.” None of these Tasha-centric episodes would resonate emotionally if not for S1, and skipping S2 would have robbed Katrina of the shared fan experience of losing and getting back Dr. Crusher. Additionally, would Picard’s transformation into Locutus have been as dramatic for someone only watching for one season? Each Star Trek series builds that personal connection to the cast over multiple seasons. You can’t pick and choose what point on the ride to get on and have as rich an experience.

Love it. It was a different experience seeing the “next time on Star Trek the next generation” at the end of each episode. The networks needed ratings but now you are hiding the spoilers knowing you are gonna watch it anyways. You both should watch the cheesy next week previews after the episode to see how much it spoiled episode you just watched.

This was also a landmark episode for being the 80th episode, which surpassed the 79 episodes of the Original Series. There were a couple of subtle references in the episode to the 79th episode of TOS: The delayed expedition to Camus II was a reference to the episode "Turnabout Intruder", which was set on that planet, and in both episodes, there was a USS Potempkin referenced.

I've said this before, but you can't tell me that Data doesn't have emotions. He doesn't have human emotions, of course. But he's not 100% cold logic. He has some android analog of emotions.

I feel like this is another episode that gets better with age and life experience (like a fine glass of Chateau Picard). When I was a kid, I didn't care about the emotional connections among the crew and I couldn't relate to Riker's guilt over Tasha dying under his command (a detail I LOVE and which really adds a layer every time he's worried about somebody). Now, this was just a great meditation on Tasha and her impact. I loved the focus on the season one characters (no Guinan) in this episode, and just the way everybody who loved Tasha tried to love Ishara despite her resistance. I loved Picard's father moment with Ishara when he defends Tasha's memory. And, I loved how Troi called it so early on and tried to prepare everybody for the betrayal that was coming, especially Data. We should all be so lucky to have a friend like Data. Tasha's death gets a lot of flak in the fandom, and was not a favorite of the new writers, either (hence their development of "Yesterday's Enterprise" to give her a "proper" send-off), but I love it. She said it in her funeral recording: "Never forget that I died doing what I loved." The quality of her death has no impact on its meaning - the quality of her is what makes it meaningful. Great reaction, y'all!

I liked this episode and it really drove home the fact that Tasha was a good character that deserved more development than she got. It also shows that you can't judge a person by their siblings. Also the shot of the Enterprise at the very end is not a CG model. It's the original shot of the 6ft model remastered from the original 35mm.

I just got a gray Bass Pro Shops visor (because none of their caps were big enough for my head). Not as cool as what Katrina and Data are sporting, but it has its own appeal. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-original-woodcut-visor I appreciate the message in this episode about friendship and trust, but the warring factions plot is just so generic that this isn't an episode I can see myself coming back to in the future unless it's been years since I last watched it. I'll give it a 6 out of 10 only on the strength of the moments between Ishara and Data.

I love this episode, overall. I had a feeling that Ishara was more conflicted than the episode showed. She really did want to leave, to have those wonderful friendships. The mission to blow up the generator was a suicide one, which DEFINITELY shows her commitment to her gang. But on the flip side she didn't have to help Riker ACTUALLY save the crewmen, she could have just bailed once she was beamed down, killing anyone that tried to follow her. So she was SUPER conflicted, trying to get both missions done successfully. But in the end she wasn't as strong as Tasha, and couldn't leave her gang. When the landing party first beams down, there's a couple LARGE edits as they go from entering the complex to meeting the head of the Coalition is relatively short order. I feel like a few more scenes on how they got there would have made that portion less jarring. For time, they could have cut the scene where Ishara reports back "It's working" as the betrayal reveal would have been better without that giveaway scene.

I always liked this episode for the character interactions. You got a neve campbell vibe from the actress I always got a Linda Hamilton vibe.

Another episode I’m not really a fan of. I usually skip this when watching the fourth season. I never liked Tasha, so I really don’t care about her family.
