Issues I have with this is that PC Yaz made no comments about the guy with the illegal firearm also unfair dismissal. This isn't America.

this episode was more fun than I remembered, although it still bothers me that the doctor didn't shut business guy up, by informing him she is the president of earth and outrank him in every conceivable way

I think I had a similar feelings watching this series. I overcame it by immediately watching Seskasays reactions after each episode. her enjoyment helped me see the series from a different perspective.

As much as i've really enjoyed Jodie's era as the Doctor and liked most of the episodes, this and the next episode were two of my least favourite of series 11. But watching with Paula and Katrina i've enjoyed this one a lot more this time round, really appreciating the character dynamics between the companions. And i have to say, i really don;t mind Chris Noth's villain. He was appropriately over the top for this type of episode lol

About the "getting used to" thing... I remember very clearly how I was feeling at the time when Jodie's first series started... I was quite confused for various reasons, and mostly, it was about too-many-changes. The Doctor now being a woman certainly was the least of my problems, I loved that aspect and was one who would've loved to see more of her in these early episodes, so I, too, was one of those who thought going with a whole group of companions didn't help me. Basically, here I was, interested to getting to know the new Doctor, but I had to quickly gather a new group of people, one of which died in the very first episode (and I kinda had a grasp on her, but less so with Graham), then there's some new form of alien right in the first episode as well. It all felt a bit like an alternative universe's Doctor Who show, where everything was a bit similar to the Doctor Who I knew, but I couldn't hold on to much. Personally, I quickly came to the conclusion that I'd have loved to see a little more links to the series that ended before it, just to take me along. Maybe go visit a previously known person. Maybe a previously known set. So I, personally, needed a second start months after I had tried the first 4-5 episodes. It still didn't land for me. I tried it again later, still didn't work quite. And then I thought: Okay, but do I really _want_ Doctor Who to give me that much _work_ to get into it? Sure I had previously had missed an earlier Doctor when a new one came around, or I had missed a companion now gone and disliked a new companion at first because of that – but there were always connecting things that quickly got me into it. The previous few series also had conditioned me for some bigger problem looming over the Doctor (or the companion, or both) quite from the beginning, making me wonder where the series would take me. Jodie's series simply didn't have that. I'm still missing it. Hopefully it'll get better with this rewatch. I've vowed to give it yet another try now, and so far I'm with it, albeit with the same concerns.

This one is hard for me to watch: I have serious arachnophobia (and I don't mean in the "I hate spiders" kind of way, it's a serious phobia) and it was really tough to get through the first time. I almost skipped the watchalong with the Gallifrey Gals, but I stuck it out. It actually helped that the screen with the spiders was nice and small at the bottom of the screen. Trying to look past the spiders to the actual quality of the episode, I find the same issues I generally find in Chibnall's era: a number of really brilliant, beautiful moments but not coming together in a well-designed whole.

Of any of my personal issues with the Chibnall era, the companions are SUPER not one of them. Gimme them multiple wonderful companions! Just like in Classic Who.

This episode and the "Donna hanging out by the pool" scene in Midnight were both filmed at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales. I've seen pictures of the place, and it's goooorgeous.

Honestly, one of my favourite episodes this season. I just love it. It just works for me (my hatred of spiders aside). But love this episode. Like you said, not every episode needs a big bad. The story between the Doctor and the companions is the heart of the episode.

This episode was so much better on rewatch, or sharing the watch with Paula. Like Kat said, it seemed so weak when I watched it originally, especially straight after Rosa.

There must be more to this story than I saw the first time round if it was able to get Paula to sympathize with a giant spider. As far as multiple companions, without getting spoliery... is that one of the three doesnt get enough time this series to settle in, to have an arc and develop. With Rory & Amy and Rose & Jack, Amy & Rose were already well developed in their relationship with The Doctor when the 'Plus 1' joined on the Tardis. I think in this series one of the companions felt a little squeezed out from lack of focus in the script. Theres only so much time and in my opinion it was always the same companion who suffered the most.

I enjoyed this episode but as far as Trump comparisons go I think the Twilight Zone episode did it a little better. But then again TZ being an anthology series can focus more on comparisons. While I enjoy the new TZ, yeah it doesn't replace the original but some episodes are great.

I will say that I liked the reaction to this episode WAYYYY more than I liked the actual episode. And I'm SO SO happy Paula enjoyed it!

I think this is my fourth time through this episode and every time I like it more. Noth is hilariously creepy. All the Doctor's quips and comebacks get better every time I hear them. So far, I rate the first two episodes as 10's, Rosa as a 12 out of ten, and this one is about an 8 1/2.

One of my favorites! So many silly moments, so many heartfelt moments, and 13 is amazing as always here. Love this group, especially Yaz. That's all I'll say for now.
