it is also interesting that unlike other companions, who barely even knew the doctor when they discovered this side of him, Bill has known the Doctor for a while now. she isn't afraid of a stranger she impulsively decide to travel with, she is disappointed of a man who at this point is basically her mentor.

Looking forward to this one, as it's one of my faves! (And, as a Martha fan, I personally love how much better the Doctor handles Bill's concerns about racism in this one, unlike in 'The Shakespeare Code', where Ten is just all like 'What are you worried for? Just walk around like you own the place like me'....um, no...soooo tone deaf there).

There is always a line that just grabs you. Especially in the Capaldi episodes. In this one, it was the "I'm 2000 years old" line.

There's a deleted scen from this episode where the Doctor is explaining to Bill how, on his last trip to the Frost Fair he had to winch a piano up onto the bridge, and when Bill asks why, he says because he felt it would be more romantic for his wife's birthday (and I imagine better for Stevie Wonder to play😀). Also, I feel the name of the boy Peri is a nod to a companion of the 5th and 6th Doctor, Peri Brown (though her full name was Perpugillian, not Peregrine).

I think this one's a right belter. Bill and a Boost, no better way to spend an evening. If I'd have known, I'd have brought one from the shop on me way home. Could have shared in that eye rollin choccy goodness.

I'm the same! I really like this episode but can't pin down exactly why. For me, I think it has to do with it's relation to River Song, and we finally get to see THAT frost fair. That put me in a good mood about it, and then the Doctor's mini-speeches to Bill, and his big one to the white supremacist he just punched out.

One of my favourites. I love the Doctor & Bill's dynamic. And although we have seen this trope of "companion sees the Doctor's apparent dark side" before, I think the execution here is particularly good. I like what the Doctor says about needing to move on and how he doesn't have time for outrage. It makes sense, even as he totally disproves it later ;) Now what was that knocking...?

I've always enjoyed this particular episode from series 10 although I really can't put my finger on why. Perhaps it has to do with seeing Bill's early difficulties in adapting with time traveling to the past or maybe it's Twelve's calmer demeanor from previous series. At any rate I do look forward to seeing what the ladies think and so let's go!

History nerd time! So...Paula was kind of right when she mentions the ice age. This period of time was known as the Little Ice Age, which started in about the 14th century and lasted until the late 19th century. It was a time period when the River Thames would freeze over in the winter, allowing for what they called "frost fairs". And I love the little detail of the soldiers hanging out at the fair. Being 1814, the Napoleonic Wars are still going. Napoleon doesn't get defeated for the last time at Waterloo until late in 1815, so there'd still be some soldiers wandering around London on their off time. Edit: Oh! I almost forgot to mention the probable cause of the Little Ice Age. In the middle of the 13th century, there had been several volcanos that erupted in Indonesia. Well, it was four volcanoes. Now, you might question whether four counts as "several", but you know what? When *one* volcano erupting could cause trouble, four in the same year had to have been catastrophic. And, well...it was. It dumped the planet into a mini-ice age that lasted between six and seven centuries.
