Indeed. It was noted at the time that William Hartnell was impressed with the production values of this story and saying that it was a shame that it wouldn't be seen in colour. With the BBC's policy of scrapping 'out-of-time' programmes, deemed worthless, we are denied even that! A policy that continued even into the 90s.

💯% recommend the Marco Polo episode as it leads into a bit of plot that returned again years later. So good. Kinda problematic with a bunch of white british "Mongols" though. Yeesh.

Of course, The Doctor is talking about the beginning of a solar system as an accretion disk before the star ignites. The whole thing beautifully performed by William Hartnell.

I would agree with this as the best compromise, however if you do decide to do each episode I will still watch them with you.

The loss of all episodes of "Marco Polo" is one of the greatest tragedies of the early Dr Who lost episodes— it's a tragedy we're missing *any* episodes, but judging by the surviving photos I'd say it's the worst. It seems like it was the most lavish production Dr Who in that era attempted. On whether it's worth the Gals doing reactions to the audio+slideshow version, I'll be with you whether you do, or decide to just move on to the next intact story. Pick whichever interests you.

As for the next adventure, Marco Polo, the DVD box set entitled The Beginning has a thirty minute cut down version of Marco Polo on it, should watching 7 episodes composed of stills too much of an effort for all of us to bear.
