Fun fact, the "I love having a foot fetish" line was ad-libbed by Sam xD Which makes sense, seeing as he played Scanlan for years!

It's a one-two punch, with Liam's performance absolutely devastating me every time. Even just Vax's grief is a gut punch, but then add him sobbing in fear as a kid, and it's so brutal.

They do such a good job of instilling a sense of foreboding. There's so many storytelling beats that hint at tragedy to come. The only thing missing is Vex announcing that she's a week a way from retiring and then donning a red shirt. I'd seen the live play so I knew what was coming, (more or less, another strength of LOVM is that tthey've changed just enough to keep us on our toes), but it still smacked me right in the trauma.

Critical Role, everyone, purveyors of joy, toilet humour and trauma! One detail I like here is the almost complete lack of music from the episode; there's barely any until that last gut-punch. They did it intentionally to add to the sub-conscious feeling of unease throughout the episode.
