There's resolution in the alternative ending

Despite the issues with the writing of this episode, this really did feel like a return to form right at the end. It was maybe forced on the writers but just having the 4 main characters (x2) and a limited space was a reminder of the early episodes and focused on character with a good old fashioned Sci-Fi trope to build it around. Some great gags and some great quotes - "I hope you have a quarantine license for that!" was a line we used to frequently dish out to friends whenever they had a dodgy haircut. Well acted throughout. As already mentioned, in my head this is the future Lister and Rimmer we saw in Stasis Leak, on their way to being corrupted. Konchanski had bailed out at some point (or returned to die with the rest of the crew?) due to Lister being a Class A arsehole. So, that future has now been wiped and will not happen. A great end to a good series........ But god, what a long wait for a resolution.

Ridiculous as it might seem, I had forgotten that OOT was a cliffhanger! For me - at the time of course, there was barely an internet, and I would watch the episodes from varioues series throughout the show's run here and there as they were randomly shown on Norwegian TV. I didn't see VII until... I think I actually saw VIII before VII, though I might be making that up. I do remember that I specifically went to my first ever convention (of any kind) because they were showing series VIII. And that's how I met my husband. Anyway, as I said in the Rimmerworld comments, I am biting my nails to see what you both think of series VII. There are a couple of lovely episodes in there, and the first one is up there with the best RD there is - but yeah. You'll have looked it up by now, but the last RD produced is the second mini-series - 9 being the first mini-series - and it is honestly one of my favorite bits of RD ever.
