This episode raises so many questions. like, why did River had no idea who the Silence were when they come to get her, despite being fully aware in "lets kill Hitler" that she was trained to kill the Doctor? Also, once River decided not to kill the Doctor, why did the Silence even need her in lake Silencio? the suit did all the work, all River did was to disrupt it. And finally, how did River end up in prison? the only witnesses were her family and the Silence, neither had any motive to report her to the authorities. Honestly, as much as I love the crazy time shenanigans in this episode (it is the closest we would ever get to a live action "sid meier's civilization" adaptation) it would have worked better as a timey wimey court drama, with the Doctor showing up as a surprise witness in his own murder trial, explaining why he will go willingly to his death and why the court should consider River's future rehabilitation when they sentence her.

As much as I hate to say it, I think part of the reason River loves the Doctor was part of Madam Kovarian's brain washing. The Silence had her as a baby and little girl and programed her to love the Doctor. It may have been love, but it wasnt natural and kind of sick when you think about it. ... And another way to think about it is that she was always destined to love the Doctor and Kovarian just used that by also turning her into a murderous psychopath.
