well, as an english man born in 81, rewatching all these gold blend ads in quick succession for tne first time in like 35 years was certainly... something! why do i suddenly feel like it might be a good idea to knock on my neighbour's door and ask if they have any spare instant coffee? if you like this kind or serial british 80s/90s tv advert madness, check out flake, carling black label, oxo etc π

It made me think "That's enough, Proboscis Luke".

I actually thought that was going to the thing that got to somebody and traumatized them, I underestimated what was on the table,

ok so I'm paused at 22:11 (have to get in on this) and have a theory to offer, being so emotional as to say "I love you" out of the blue ran afoul of British standards and practices of the time so the whole campaign of coffee commercials had to be halted and Nescafe had to issue an appology. π

that ad with the trunk person on the subway reminded me of that sketch from interdimensional cable.

I remember when there was a Punky Brewster episode about getting trapped in an old fridge. Must have been a real problem decades ago.
Kirk Deighton
The public information film most deeply embedded in my mind would be the one where they get trapped in a old fridge, if the Prodigy hadn't sampled the "Charly Says" series and displaced the fear of death as my primary association with those films.
Rob DW
If it hasn't been recommended already the UK Public information Film "Apaches" from 1973, about the danger of playing on a farm is notorious for just how messed up it is. https://youtu.be/1_J6_O4bn0s?si=Kgzx4T496njRjzUO

The only way people should hear the "Charlie Says.. " commercial is in the sample used in the Prodigy song "Charly" that tune is a banger. https://youtu.be/cSTBFZ-To2E?si=iC896o2Zy-eEGML4

The Gorilla advert is iconic. Some other suggestions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yf4NIdGS_g , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtonKAfVodQ

The struggle is real. Preparing food depletes my spoons. I usually just do takeout or see whatever the supermarket has in their grab-and-go section. I usually canβt even be bothered to reheat leftover pizza; I just eat it cold.
Mordredd
That was fun, I remember a lot of those from back in the day. I also commend you're bravery for wanting to see more of our old public safety ads, but if any of them start with 'Charlie says...' just run for it! Most of them were perfectly fine, but some β¦ oh god no...

Hi gals, you might consider adding these PSA's from the 50's & 60'.. This is the kind of shit I saw in school when I was a kid. Yes, in schools. Want to know why you're parents & grandparents are sop messed up? This is it! Duck & Cover short version, The Trouble With Women, Boys Beware, Duck & Cover long version & Our Cities Must Fight. Besides YouTube they are available elsewhere being public domain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMnKNHNfznE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a36iJTnbMqA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTn7ALbLYPI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWH4tWkZpPU

I think the coffee must be laced with Krillitaine oil ;)

Such an enjoyable reaction to such a random selection. Definitely up for more like this. British TV has always had a number of these adverts which can be disturbing, there is a compilation on YouTube of Top 10 most effective British adverts which can be disturbing but worth a watch

You can see the coffee years change in her hair and outfits. THOSE SHOULDERPADS!!!
