Oh, also - while it's overshadowed by the drama, I loved the briefing room scene with everyone simply relaying what info they know and their perspective, given their expertise. It reminded me a bit of the Star Trek conference room scenes where you see that these are all professionals who are good at their jobs simply trying to assess a problem and determine a course of action. It's easy to dismiss a scene like that as simple exposition , but I really appreciated it.

Yep, I'm rewatching the first season because I didn't have access to the episodes when y'all started! Re: Balthar and the card game, I think the second level meaning was that Balthar is himself in the highest stakes game of his conniving, duplicitous life! The only way he's going to make it out the other side with his skin is if he can successfully bluff his way through - so he was honing his skills, rebuilding his confidence and preparing himself for the pressure cooker he's in to be dialed up to 100.
