Reminds me of Twitch. I would pay more for bits and subs if I was on the mobile app (usually at work). I think they recently raised the sub price to match all around tho.

As a man that uses Opera, OpenOffice, Proton mail and only thinks of clouds as fluffy things in the sky, I agree.

Colour me shocked! I'm not an Apple user & I'm sure I've never used the app before, either. Everything I've watched/signed up to is through my various PC's/Laptops, over the years. Thank you for letting us know so quickly, love you both. 🩷🩷

Time Lord

Correct! Unless Google comes in to do the same, but here's hoping they're smarter than that

Time Lord

What you stated is exactly it! If your subscription is purchased through the IOS app, there will now be an extra charge that auto included into our prices (even though it has nothing to do with us trying to raise our prices on y'all). So if you're signing up through desktop or android, you're in the clear! If you're already signed up with us through the IOS app, you're also in the clear because it is prior to the November launch date of this new "rule"

I thought apple had been successfully sued over this with Fortnite or was this just in Europe?

Artemis Zeidman

My poor iPod Nano (circa 2006) won’t hold a charge anymore. Since I can’t swap out the battery myself to see if that helps and Apple doesn’t service devices that many generations old, I just keep it tucked away. I don’t think it’s really worth it to me to take to an indie repair shop, especially since there’s no guarantee a new battery will do the trick.

Nolan

I only use the app to read and post comments.

Richard Ward

Thank you, Malcom. It hasn't been 100% clear to me whether there was a grandfather'd in clause for existing accounts.

Malcolm Wolf

I believe it only affects new subs or re-subs, so it is only worth worrying about if you take a break and return later.

Troy Convers

Never owned an Apple device except for my iPod Classic, and never will.

Bret Hart

Same here

So, Androids are good to go?👍

Another reason why going with the Apple walled garden BS is a terrible idea, and its not like people did not have warnings, they where warned plenty for many years. If you are going to depend all of your ecosystem on one provider, then don't be surprised that you get locked in and find it difficult to make your consumer choice heard. (Same goes for google or Microsoft btw, its all a terrible idea to be dependant on them) The last apple product I bought for myself was the iPod classic, since then I never bought another apple product because I did not like how they where enclosing their ecosystem. I provide IT services to many clients, and I warn them off all of this and they are all glad they eventually listened to me. It does pay off in the end not to be dependant and have choices. Control your products, control your data, own things, don't subscribe to them and whenever possible go for open source products. You exchange a little loss of convenience today for saving yourself a lot of pain in the future. The best path is rarely easy. The easy path is rarely the best.

How do I tell whether I signed up thru iOS or the Browser? I am pretty sure I did thru Browser cuz, as Kat Says, the Patreon app sucks, but I don't know for sure. I want MY money going to YOU, not to 🍎.

Paflad

It's times like this I'm glad I've never owned an apple device in my life

Artemis Zeidman

I’m unclear as to what’s happening. So, if you sign up as a patron specifically using the iOS app, Apple is going to start taking a huge commission? The app is buggy as heck, BTW, and has been since that huge update a few months back. Patreon seems far more concerned with aesthetics than functionality. For example, their block function is a complete joke that doesn’t work.

Sue the Scottish Geek

I have the app on my Android, but I never use it, I always end up watching on my laptop!

DarkAshtar

Fortunately never really been an Apple user.

Seth Brower

It's such an odd thing, I don't think I've EVER installed the Patreon app, Ios or Android.
