It's an insane plan by any stretch. Two warships are going to retake 12 occupied planets? No chance, but even if they did. All the major cities will be craters. The atmospheres will be radioactive for decades. And the Cylons - who have their own homeworld and ship/weapons manufacturing base - will know exactly where you are. Either Cain has totally gone of the deep end or her only ambition is to go out fighting.

Roslin's entire purpose since she found out she was dying and the genocide of the Colonies happened on the same day has been ensuring the survival of humanity. Now that she feels she's running out of time, her decisions have been made under much more pressure, because she has to ensure the species will continue after she's gone, and then along comes Cain. What are her options in this circumstance with a power mad, military might, the mission above all type? However, as far as Cain's long term goal, she did say it was to kick tje Cylons out of the Colonies. Which is a tad short-sighted, but she's very focused on stiking back instead of survival.
