Okay, I haven't seen anyone comment about this yet, and I feel I have to - Adama didn't know about Hera. The only people who were in the room, and this in the know are Roslin, Tory and Doc Cottle.

I think the wins are all done now...

Awesome episode, great reaction. Enjoyed your annoyance at Ellen's death actually being sad, haha. I'd like mention an extended version is available for upcoming episode, 3x9 Unfinished Business. It is a very strong character development episode for the whole cast, and you get more and deeper moments with everyone in the extended version. Obviously the structure is thrown off a bit, but I think most people would agree it's worth it. I know you decided against the extended version for Pegasus, which is understandable considering the harshness of it's content, but Unfinished Business is much less unpleasant.

In typical BSG fashion, when you think they are finally gonna get a win, it ends up being more of a tie...

I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy Ellen's death like you wanted. That wasn't fair.

For me this is the show at it's absolute peak and is easily in my top 10 TV episode of all time. It's a masterpiece. It's got some really dark moments, some really bright moment and some absolute badass moments. Galactica jumping into atmosphere and jumping away. Pegasus to the rescue. Absolutely love it. You are right that the dynamic changes a bit over the next season or two and Gaius especially has some really interesting stuff coming up. Man I love this show.

Truthfully, I was a touch saddened you guys didn't get to watch this in the same room, because it is absolutely a blockbuster of an episode. In his commentary/podcast showrunner Ronald D. Moore was watching along and during the scene where all the civvie ships are lifting off amongst the chaos of the Raider and Viper dogfighting in the air, he juat let slip "They better win the F%^#ing Emmy," regarding the VFX. It did. This episode is Galactica on all cylinders. The writing of action and drama, to hype and cry, the acting, and directing, the chaotic shakeycam middle of an uprising directing, the VFX and Bear McCreary going all out with his soundtrack. "Storming New Caprica" is a garaunteed blood pumper of a track. And at the end the Galactica is back, and more alive than we've ever seen it as it now has the crews of 2 Battlestars onboard, bringing the crew compliment back up to what it normally should've been even before the miniseries. And yes, when I met Kate Vernon who plays Ellen Tigh at a con, I absolutely got her to sign the case for this DVD because she KILLED it. "Do anything, frak anybody." If you look back at her character and the things she's done these last couple of seasons, you'll see that as awful as they are, the things she does IS to protect Tigh, elevate him, or keep him in a position of responsibility. It wasn't always healthy, and certainly she's been very questionable and toxic as heck, but I don't doubt her intentions now. (I even half expect her flirtations with Lee were to gain an ace in the hole should the Adamas ever try to cut ties with Saul. And I bet if she did sleep around in the fleet pre-attack, it was to get favours for Tigh, to keep his drunken antics from tanking his career - disgusting, manipulative and toxic, but from a twisted place of love) I got Hogan to sign another. It's always a nice little surprise everytime I pull my DVDs out to watch.

Zarek's a good egg. He won't make any problems. *Whistles nervously*

What a slobberknocker of an episode! You want a resolution to a story arc? Well you got one, for suresies. Welcome to the legend of The Adama Manoeuvre, with Galactica dropping from the sky like an angel of hope, weighed down with Bill's big balls and his Castillo 'Tasche power. The thunderclap of the air rushing in as she fires up her FTL is just fucking legendary. But, how much did it take out of her? There's no Star based for a wash and brush up. Meanwhile, Lee's equally big balls rescued Daddy Adama, with The Pegasus going out in a blaze of glory. You may have entered the show as a villain's steed, but you went out a godsdam hero, girl. That end shot with the carrier arm floating past the 'camera' is chef's kiss. And let's give a hand to the support players; Kat leading like a boss and former nugget Hotdog nonplussed about launching through a wall of fire. The writers really have done a good job of fleshing out minor characters with minimal effort. And then you have one of the BSG's writers trademarks of making you feel for established villains; Tigh choosing his principles over Ellen is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the whole series, and yes we understand that her love for Saul was total, even if it made her cross a line. Tigh lost his eye, his wife and maybe even his soul. That look back from Adama tells you he knows what sacrifice looks like and his brother-in-arms sacrificed plenty. And what of poor Kara? Having the cruelest trick of building up a mother's love for her child and then having it ripped away is ninth level of hell evil, and of course Leobden could come back to do it again. Both her and Tigh are broken people. Hmm, will we get a nice, relaxing wind-down episode next week? The frak we will. More doings are afoot.

Ah, 'the Adama maneuver'. Possibly one of the most bad-ass scenes in any sci-fi show. That image of Galactica jumping away right above the ground, the implosion that sucks in the flames and the silence that follows... and then the sound of Viper engines. Chills every time. Caprica Six here reminds me of Gaeta in a way. They're both idealists. He believed in the dream of New Caprica, she believes in the idea of Human and Cylon living together. The only difference is Gaeta's dream got well and truly crushed, and perhaps now hers is too. Also something else to consider... Roslin might be sitting in the chair, but legally speaking she doesn't get to be President again just because Gaius has run off with the Cylons. Technically that would fall to his Vice-President, a Mr... Tom Zarek. Oh. Hmm.

Troy Convers

Nice of Adama to drop in.
