Adama and Chief. Oy.

This episode is very timely. My girlfriend has a friend who is drinking himself to death (and he has legit reasons). I won't trauma dump, but it's an exhausting situation all around. I hope he finds his way out of the hole.

*SIGH* She'll outlive us all, that one.

Enjoyed your take on everything, as always! I know others have mentioned this before, but if you can get your hands on the DVD or otherwise procure the extended version of episode 9, it'll be well worth your while (an extra 25 minutes!). FYI, Amazon labels it episode 8 and only has the standard cut. There's a lot of really good character stuff coming up and you'll want to experience it all!

It's kinda funny how you so readily dismiss Head-Six telling you what she is.

The editing and soundtrack on the basestar really gives this ethereal, otherworldly feel to the Cylon setting, and I think also highlights how untethered from time Baltar feels, as there is NO way for him to keep track of time, and it's all flowing into and out of itself, just like when he was praying in S1. Oh, and you're righg, that scene on the Beach with Gaius and Six was totally ADR'd, with light blooms around the actors mouths to hide the fact they were speaking completely different lines that were deemed to not be working and subbed out at the last minute.
Karl Ward
Fantastic reaction as usual, if I'd ever have been a father, if my children turned out like any of you, I'd have been a proud man.

That second point makes sense.

Not gonna lie, every time one of you says you're totally done with these characters and you hate them now I make a mental bet with myself how many episodes before you're crying over something bad happening to them/wishing them out of an awful situation xD That's how you know it's good writing/acting!
Jonathan
Never got that "you were like a daughter to me once, no more" links to Starbuck/Kacey. Good catch. With the base ship I think Cylons have to make a specific choice to project. Boomer was still thinking of herself as human, so she saw the baseship as it really is - fleshy and gross.

I've been a fan of EJO ever since his role as Lieutenant Martin Castillo in Miami Vice, a laconic character of deep intensity with an even deeper loyalty to his officers and volcanic anger if he was betrayed by them. EJO's William Adama is built on the foundation of his Castillo role, and the twenty year gap between the roles has just deepened his ability to smoulder. His evisceration of Kara and Tigh, natural adversaries turned mutual hate buddies reads like Castillo ripping into Crockett and Tubbs, and boy did he inflict some deep cuts; the wounded look on Kara's face when he disowned her as a surrogate daughter, with her realising that's exactly what she did to Kacey, and Tigh's admission that the man Adama knew is now gone is heartbreaking. Note that both Leobden and Adama, two opposite ends of Kara's emotional spectrum called her a cancer; 'Razor' alludes to this. It isn't a coincidence. The whole episode is chock full of spellbinding acting. The usual suspects on Galactica and the base ship as described, the hypnotic Tiffany Lyndall-Knight (Stargate alumni, natch) does a masterful role as the Hybrid, who we'll get to know more of. And Callis showing yet another aspect of Gaius' psyche; that look on his face when he killed the Six is something else. The Athena callsign is a nod to BSG78. The character was actually Adama's daughter and played a role similar to Gaeta, so Adama thinking of Sharon as his daughter is a nice tie in, and a counterpoint to his estrangement of Kara. The whole 'you see the interior of a base star according to your own perceptions' is intriguing; I wonder why Sharon saw the one where she encountered her 'sisters' as just organic internals, or is that just a writing aberration that's been retconned? I'm thinking the latter, as the base stars exteriors also look far more detailed now, ironically being more fleshed out and more alien. NB The Final Five and hybrid arcs start now. Again, Razor's story contains a big chunk of lore on the hybrids; I strongly suggest you watch it now and not get bogged down with the broadcast date being after S3, as we're already way past it, storyline wise.

Did Kat just say at the beginning that she "aPAULAgizes"? :P

Chief: Can't believe I got Brother Caville to help me with my emotional problems, he's got to be the worst therapist ever. Adama: Hold my gun.

It's always darkest just before you find out you were wrong about how dark it could get. Kidding! Kidding! I don't remember how dark it gets next. I probably blacked out from the pain. Kidding! Kidding! We have fun.
