The episode seems to be out of sync. E.g Rimmer's ramp comment is 18 minutes into the episode but 15 minutes here.

TuneIntoSanityFM

Or did remember, but wouldn't do since the treatment.

Except he wasn't really Hitler, he was a droid who though he was a clone of Hitler. if it was a TNG episode, it would have explored the nature of identity and whether of not somebody should be blamed for crimes they remember doing, but didn't actually commit.

And for reference, 'Second Sight' is a decent episode; nothing too spectacular but a solid 6/10. In my opinion of course.

Troy Convers

You have to watch them once to be able to know how good (or not) they are. It's not for others, even user guides, with their own biases, to dictate. EXAMPLE: I think that the TNG episode 'The Inner Light' is an overrated pot boiler episode. Should I tell people not to watch it? Not my right.

Travis Boyle

Love this episode. Great reaction to the duet and Rimmer's ramp joke.

Troy Convers

It's a standard.

Frank Murphy

Hitler here. I told you once, I told you twice, I'd be back. Pasta la vista baby.

Ashley

I swear the song Hitler and Lister play sounds just like a song that appears multiple times in Over The Garden Wall.

Sue the Scottish Geek

I do kinda like it too, purely for the memeable moments!

David Bishop

Hitler and Marilyn Monroe could almost be considered recurring characters in Red Dwarf. It's nice to know that even if Cat is technically a psychopath, he's still loyal to his friends.

Mark Ten

I always wished they had taken the droids with them, esp. Hitler.

Lizbeth Marcs

Awwww I like Move Along Home. There's dozens of us! Dozens! :-D

Robert Gendron

Pretty sure I just saw Kat lose part of her sanity during the duet.

Sue the Scottish Geek

You honestly want to subject Kat to episodes like Move Along Home, and Second Sight? And the DS9 Algernon Guide's been up for years.

Troy Convers

No episodes should be skipped, and Daystrom Institute's Reddit has been trash since the split.

TuneIntoSanityFM

Now we're caught up, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the styles of the different series, rather than individual episodes. Series one and two have a different feel to the rest, but I think they give the whole show a gravitas which provides the Universe we adventure in later on. We've had different sets and artistic styles since. Which era's formula really pinged your bell?

Jade Ellis

Been waiting for you to get to this one. One of my favourites of the Dave era. I love the scene of Lister and Hitler playing guitar. Rayan Cage plays a camp Hitler so well.

Sue the Scottish Geek

I love this episode! They had difficulty with Lister and not-Hitler jamming though - they were originally going to have them performing Africa, but they couldn't get permission to use the song, cos understandably Toto didn't want a version of Hitler to perform their song! On a completely different tangent (cos youtube has been eating my comments): Kat, if you're still thinking about watching DS9, the Daystrom Institute's Algeron guide for DS9 on reddit is a great way to skip the weakest episodes. I love DS9 but it's first few seasons have a lot of bottle episodes that can be skipped.

Troy Convers

Yes, let's sanewash the most evil man in history. That's how fascists get away with it...

Troy Convers

Not a fan of the episode; a tired idea and weak writing mostly just falls flat for me and the Hitler stuff made my toes curl up. Still, some good one liners, the left turning Starbug gag is funny, Cat is a total rockstar, we get the Boys From the Dwarf callback and hey, old Adolph gets a (sorta) redemption arc for his fourth guest spot in a Dwarf ep after appearances in 'Meltdown' as a Wax Droid, 'Timeslides' in the film footage and off screen dining in 'Out of Time'.

TuneIntoSanityFM

"It's because I'm Hitler, isn't it" Star Trek TNG would have made a whole episode exploring that idea, here it's just an understated gag! Hitler is practically the fifth Dwarfer at this stage!
