I think this was filmed with a view to potentially being the last episode. Not least dealing Rimmer into the poker game ST:TNG last episode style!

Frank Murphy

Indeed it was

Frank Murphy

Great work guys, what a journey. I pissed myself laughing at rat first time.

Troy Convers

Interesting article about if there will ever be a final episode and some information about the problems with the new filming. https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/red-dwarf-no-finale-episode-exclusive-newsupdate/

Travis Boyle

Wish I was absurdly rich so I could give them the money

Travis Boyle

Took me awhile to watch your reaction because it's the last normal episode. What a fun ride this has been. Just a fantastic episode. The set up of the opposite of everything happening was so funny. And Mr. Rat was hysterical. I had to watch it back again when I originally saw it because I was laughing so hard. Can't wait for Promised Land and the behind the scenes content. The Gals From The Dwarf.

Troy Convers

An as an aside, B7 is finally being released on BluRay, remastered FX, episode commentary, behind the scenes footage, the works!

Troy Convers

And THAT Federation...

Hell3Quin

They wont know what hit them with the switheroo's

Troy Convers

Don't start me off dammit! 😭

Troy Convers

Oh, it is Danny!

Troy Convers

HELL YEAH! I so want to see the Gals react to Avon's bastardry and ORAC's sass!

Hell3Quin

Oh no 🙏

Hell3Quin

Oh the ending

Chris Neumann

I love this episode, good finale, nice callbacks... and the way they show how the anomaly affects them reminds me of classic Dwarf, using comedy to illustrate a complex sci-fi idea.

I gotta figure out where I'm gonna watch the next thing. Its the only one I don't own. I also gotta make sure I get the right version. I think when I first watched it was the three parter.

Peter Harrison

I know you Gals have only watched the episodes once, but the section where Rimmer keeps on asking if everyone is alive is a complete rip from the very first episode when Dave comes out of stasis asking Holly if everyone is dead. It's the same dialogue, line for line, except everyone is alive and Lister for Rimmer.

Hell3Quin

Blakes 7 is the gritty british sci-fi show you were expecting.

Hell3Quin

According to Robert Llewellyn's The Man In The Rubber Mask, there was a film script ready to go after season 8 & I wonder if the Promised Land is that film script. Except it would have included Kochanski.

For the movie Kat should really wear her cat teeth. Thematically it would be perfect. This whole episode was sort of a call back. The early part of the episode reminds me of "White Hole". So what is it? And of course Rimmer always talks about being surrounded by successful people. But he can't handle anyone else being successful.

Hell3Quin

The suit Cat where's in the 1st episode was his own suit that he auditioned in.

Can’t wait for the Mr Rat Smeg Ups. I’ve seen it so many times and still laughed. The making of makes it even funnier cos Danny really did hit the gong with the rat tail loud enough to be heard.

Makhiel

I don't know how I managed to forget the Rat, that bit is hilarious. (o7 been here since the start, or rather The End)

Robert Carson

The sad truth is how many people like Rimmer. Not able to see someone else be happy even though they themselves would be too

Absent With Concept

My favourite episode of the Dave era, just phenomenally good, Doug was firing on all cylinders by this point. Hope you're both holding up ok with... events of this week.

Chris Fone

I can confirm you've seen the Making-of's for seasons 1, 2 & 6 because Paula wanted her "Why did Rob Grant leave?" question answered.

Jakob1978

Sadly it doesn’t look like it’s coming too soon. Craig Charles did an interview recently where he said they’re having problems raising the money so he doesn’t know when (or if) it’ll happen https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/red-dwarf-return-might-not-happen-exclusive-newsupdate/

Troy Convers

A misleading title, as it implies that Ace is in the episode - he's not. That said, this is a fantastic episode, an unabashed love letter to the fans and given that it *might* be the last 'regular' episode does serve as a pretty good denouement. There's less plot than usual and the reality skipper is just an excuse to do a Rick & Morty style multiverse episode (a council of Rimmers, *shudders*) but who cares when the shenanigans are this good! Two of the greatest ever moments in RD - the return of Holly! Apparently it was kept secret from the audience and production was held up for 15 minutes while the audience calmed down. And boy, Norman Lovett hasn't lost a step; his interaction with Rimmer just washes the years away to 1989 again. And the rat scene? HELL YEAH! The actor in the suit is uncredited, but I can't see why it wouldn't be Danny. Speaking of misleading, Naylor also edged us with the Kochanski line - not cool Doug, not cool. And yeah, what happens to the native Rimmer to that reality? Is he displaced back to 'our' reality and our crew have to put up with him? Or did they get an Ace? The homage to the 'Everybody's dead Dave's scene is chef's kiss and was that a TARDIS version of the ship in one of the realities? It would have made a fitting finale had it been the last episode; it's even ends on a card game like TNG!

Troy Convers

You want a 'Gritty British Sci-fi' from that era? *COUGH* Blakes 7...

Sue the Scottish Geek

I can't believe we're here already!! Really looking forward to your reaction to the movie! Alas the new series is hanging in the balance...apparently it's too expensive so might not get made.

Ross Nolan

I think they missed a trick in not having Rimmer be played in one scene by Suzanne Bertish (Arlene Rimmer from way back in 'Parallel Universe.') We've already seen that the skipper can have Rimmer be alive, be a hologram and even be a ship's computer so it would have been a fun callback.

BazT47

New Red Dwarf is on the way hopefully. Fingers crossed. :)

Sebastian Bodine

I feel like this was such a clean way to close out a franchise. Their TNG reactions got me interested in their YouTube channel, but the Red Dwarf reactions got me to be a patron. I'm glad that they took a chance and found a new favorite thing!

TuneIntoSanityFM

Every Red Dwarf fan knows "Skipper" is Ace's nickname for Lister. We also know all Rimmers are already going from Universe to Universe passing on the Ace flame.. The title promises too much! But do we want more Red Dwarf? -HELL YEAH.

Rowan Talmage

Mister Rat is absolutely one of the funniest bits they ever did on this entire show.

Lemmy's Mole

it's been a lovely journey since "The End"...no more brass section fills from Paula :(
