I think it's a reference to the "planet of the Apes" reboot (with Mark Wahlberg)
Time Lord
Ugggghhh that would be so good!!
Maddie the witch
I really want a lower decks movie that is Crisis point III
Matthew Hanlon
The Kitty Hawk reveal has to be a reference to The Motion Picture, right? It makes no sense!
Matthew Palmer
The guest spot and speech from George Takei/Sulu hit very hard, as this episode was released in 2022, the year that Nichelle Nichols died. It still makes me choke up a little. Also, a ship captained by Tendi and with Rutherford as an engineer would be able to solve five impossible things before breakfast and still have time for a spatial anomaly or two…
David Bishop
I honestly had no clue what character Paula was thinking of at the end of the episode. Since that wasn't Kate Mulgrew's voice, I don't think it's a spoiler to say that it wasn't Janeway.
Travis Boyle
Fun Fact : Pixar's first big studio job
Chris Devlin
It's fun to see them acknowledge that. I think the TNG episode "Future Imperfect" is the only other time you really see a Holodeck trying to make stuff up on the fly, which is how he figures out what's happening.

Yeah in ST2 the "Genesis Proposal" video Kirk watches, where they show the proposed terraforming process was one of the earliest CGI sequences.
Robert Ulus
I believe thecheesy CGI graphics that Rutherford remarks on were a direct nod to Wrath of Khan, which had some of the first CGI in star trek.
Robert Carson
Boimler and Mariner going off on their own is like when the players go off and the DM has to make it up on the fly. Boimler also steps over the letterbox at the start. The Sulu scene is sad as how many of the TOS cast had died.
Mike Connaghan
Let me know if you'd like to see an inappropriate joke about things as yet not planned to be watched, as far as I know. You can probably invent one just as good or better tbh.

I don't know if the Mary Lou referenced in the intro who is doing a musical D&D podcast is the same one who was a repeat guest on Off Book (I wouldn't think that there are two LA-based musical improv comedians named Mary Lou, but you never know) but she was in one of my favorite episodes of Off Book - Fear the Ocean. If you're a fan of musicals or improv or Jess McKenna who does VO work for Lower Decks (Ensign Barnes and the Cerritos computer), you should check it out. The opening song and the one about Catalina dressing are both top notch. I'll definitely be checking out this musical D&D podcast.

I got to say, the holodeck trying to make up a plot was the first time star trek AI truly reminded me of ChatGPT, because it obviously had no idea how to create a coherent story. it was very different than other holodeck episodes where it seemed like all they had to do was give a vague premise and get a fun adventure.
