Hard disagreement on Paula's assessment on how Gaeta was written. His resentment about the Cylons has been brewing since New Caprica. And Zarek is of course consistently a POS.

One thing I like about the ending is that even though Adama promised Gaeta and the mutineers would 'die with nothing', he can't bring himself to actually follow through on that. Gaeta dies with his uniform on. He gets a cigarette, coffee. A chance to talk to his friend in comfortable surroundings. And Adama goes out of his way to spare as many of the mutineers as he can, for better or worse. I think in the end Gaeta is what Baltar said he was on New Caprica - an idealist. He believed in democracy, he believed in Baltar's government, he believed Adama was going to lead them to Earth. But he's been beaten down SO MANY TIMES. He thinks he's doing good for the resistance, and he nearly gets thrown out an airlock anyway. He thinks he's following orders, and he gets shot in the leg. And the person responsible doesn't get punished. At every turn the people who nearly killed him get rewarded. Combine that with chronic pain from his leg, and I can totally see where he's coming from.
