Yup. There's definitely the underlying message that things might have turned out differently if everyone on Galactica wasn't SO awful to Boomer after she shot Adama. Tigh torturing her, Tyrol emotionally devastating her, and then she gets murdered while being dragged through the corridors as her former friends literally spit on her and beat her... yeesh.

I get why Boomer’s choices here feel all over the place, but part of it makes more sense if you look at how isolated she’s been from basically everyone, humans and Cylons alike, since she was revealed as a sleeper. The other 8s do not really trust her and the humans definitely do not. Cavil is the one person who has consistently given her a place and he has been feeding her the idea that emotions and human connections are just weaknesses that get her hurt. She has been burned by both sides, so when she aligns with him it is as much about having any kind of security and identity as it is about ideology. It does not excuse what she does, but it at least gives some context for why she would betray the other 8s and stick with him.

My take on Boomer is that she was absolutely betrayed by her friends and family on Galactica. There was no empathy from them. Boomer had no control over her actions or what she is. Despite what she was forced to do because of a program command, she still feels the way she has always felt. Then enters Cavil, a character who believes the Cylons are more, better than humans, he believes in Boomers potential, he sees her as being capable of more. Cavil gives Boomer what Galactica crew have failed to give her. Love is a central theme to the show and with Cavil, whether or not it is manipulative or not, she feels loved with him. Even in her sort of mind palace, the theme of it was love. Galactica chose to hate her for something that was out of her control for just a single moment, so now she gives allegiance to the one individual who gives her some of what she so desperately wants.
