I had down-graded my membership for a time for financial reasons, but DS9 brought me back. You obviously can tell this show is an emotional roller coaster, and I love that it addresses issues as much as other Trek, but *they don't just fly away.* Problems linger, develop, have unintended consequences, etc. but our DS9 crew have to deal with it, and it's personal to them, which the others shows only did on occasion. In terms of this ep, I love the Garak/Bashir interactions, but more than that I love the Kira/Odo interaction -- you really get a sense of their relationship and how much it means considering they're the two non-Starfleet in the command structure of the station. It's also funny that I just watched the Pals' reaction to the Voyager ep where a character did the same "Look what you made me do!" thing. Those people are the worst -- especially here, where Kira really trusted the guy and did her best to stand up for him.

This is honestly a great into episode. Everything you picked up on and liked are the things that DS9 is famous for and what makes it amazing. You will get to see very nuanced views on a lot stuff that shows like TNG never questioned. As to Garak. YES you did pick up vibes! Andrew Robinson, Garaks actor, is gay and has said that in his view Garak chose to approach Bashir over other people basically just because he was attracted to him.
