Pushing Through the Limit Chapter 32: Ironing Things Out
🕑 Added 2024-06-14 05:17:07 +0000 UTCA few days had passed since the Raikage’s message and we were almost ready to leave. Tsunade had sent her response and had been organizing everything that was needed for our trip to the Land of Iron. An additional Jonin needed to come with to act as protection for her and seeing as we were going to be away for a few days, Konoha needed someone to keep everything running smoothly.
Ordinarily, Tsunade would have picked Shizune to come with, but Tsunade wasn’t going to be able to maintain her shadow clones for this meeting. Shizune had to stay behind to look after the hospital. Someone else had to be chosen to come with.
It couldn’t be Jiraiya either as he was going to be acting as the interim Hokage in Tsunade’s absence, making sure that Danzo didn’t get up to anything.
With those two out, that only left two other options. Maito Gai and Hatake Kakashi, the two strongest Jonin that Konoha currently had. One boisterous and loud while the other quiet. Seeing as we were heading to an important meeting with Kumo, Tsunade chose the one that better suited the meeting.
“You got everything you need?” Kakashi asked. We were both standing in Tsunade’s office as she finished briefing Jiraiya on his duties. “Kunai, shuriken, food pills, an emergency first aid kit?”
“Everything but the medical kit,” I replied. I should probably look into getting one for the future, but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue right now, I could heal from pretty much any wound that isn’t immediately fatale and we were going to be traveling with Tsunade. If there’s a problem that she can’t heal, then it’s likely that a first aid kit wasn’t going to be of much help.
“I’ve brought two,” Kakashi said, fishing a pair of scrolls out of his leg pouch.
“You seem a little high strung,” I noticed. On all the missions I’d been on with Kakashi, he had never looked this… nervous. “I don’t remember you being so worried, even when we fought against Zabuza.”
Kakashi took a deep breath and put the scrolls back. “Back then, it was only a fight against a single other Jonin. If this meeting goes badly, it will mean war… If it goes worse, then we could be in a fight against the Raikage and his subordinates. The stakes are too high for me not to be taking this seriously.”
“Then we’ll just have to make sure that things go right,” I replied.
“Yeah,” Kakashi hummed.
There was a loud thump as the doors to Tsunade’s office swung open..
“Tsunade, why is it that we’re only hearing about this meeting with Kumo today,” Koharu started, stepping into the room, she glancing at me. “And you’re taking Konoha’s Jinchuriki with you, this is unacceptable.”
“Kumo is not to be trusted,” Homura continued, following close behind. “Just look at the Hyuga affair. After signing a peace treaty with us, they attempted to abduct the heiress of the Hyuga clan and when they were caught, they demanded we send back the body of the one to kill their Shinobi or there would be war.”
“Konoha’s Jinchuriki needs to stay in Konoha. We need to show Kumo that we won’t bow to their demands, that we’re strong,” Koharu finished.
They did have a point, but only from an outsider’s point of view. They didn’t have the full picture of just what was going on.
Tsunade turned to regard them, before nodding. “I’ve heard your advice and have decided to ignore it. Now please leave, if you don’t mind, I’ve got a few more things to go over with Jiraiya.”
I snickered at the look of outrage showing on the elders faces.
“I will not permit you to disregard our advice, we made you Hokage,” Koharu argued.
Tsunade didn’t even look at them this time, only shoo them with her hand. “That’s very nice, maybe you could go tell some academy students about it. Really show off how high important you are in Konoha.”
“Such disrespect,” Homura grunted. “Perhaps it was a mistake making you Hokage. Perhaps we should request a meeting with the Daimyo in order to rectify this mistake.”
“Disrespect,” Tsunade snorted and turned around. “So that’s what this is about. You want my respect. Maybe we should consider your actions and see if you’re worth of my respect. The two of you have barged into my office without so much as a knock on my door, thrown orders at me that were poorly disguised as advice and now that I’m not listening to either of you, you threaten to have my status as Hokage revoked.”
“Only because you do not see reason,” Koharu argued, keeping an even tone.
“Is that what they call it now days, reason?” Tsunade asked as she took several steps towards them. “When I became Hokage, I found Konoha had been severely mismanaged. The hospital was out of order, the mission selection was a mess and the budget was in severe need of a rework. During your time as advisors, Konoha has gone through a few wars, the Kyuubi has attacked, Orochimaru defected, Kumo broke a treaty and the previous Hokage was assassinated. Tell me, why should I listen to your advice?”
“Those were not our failures and let me remind you that Orochimaru was your teammate,” Koharu shot back.
“So quick to point fingers and even quicker to deny your own failings,” Tsunade sighed as she placed her hands on Koharu and Homura’s shoulders. “Let me tell you two something, if Konoha was to treat the pair of you with the respect you deserve, everyone would need to fling their crap at you the moment you walk by. Now get out of my office, I’ve got actual things to deal with… Oh, and if I hear from the Daimyo about how you two called for a meeting, I’ll be sure to let him know about each and every one of your failures.”
“This isn’t over Tsunade,” Koharu promised as she turned to leave with Homura.
There was the sound of wood hitting wood as a third presence made itself known at the door.
“Danzo,” Homura began. “I wouldn’t try talking sense into our ‘esteemed’ Hokage, she’s adamantly refusing to listen to reason.”
“Then perhaps the both of you have been trying to talk reason into the wrong person,” Danzo replied, turning towards me “Maybe you should have considered trying to convince the Jinchuriki in the room.”
“You will do no such thing! It’s already been announced to Kumo that Naruto will be present at the meeting,” Tsunade argued, looking more angry than she did with Koharu and Homura.
“Perhaps I could go in his place and explain to the Kumo delegates why he is absent,” Danzo stared directly into my eyes. “That would be a good compromise, wouldn’t you say, young Uzumaki?”
“Naruto,” Kurama warned me.
I already knew. “I will stay in Konoha… after we come back from the meeting,” I announced. Kotoamatsukami is an incredibly powerful Genjutsu, but it wasn’t without flaw.
Danzo didn’t so much as flinch when he turned to see the angry scowl on Tsunade's face. “It would seem that you’ve found yourself an incredibly loyal Shinobi, I shouldn’t be surprised… after all, the two of you are incredibly close.”
I clenched my fist tightly. This bastard just threaten to blackmail us! There was too much going on to kill him now, but after the meeting with Kumo he was free game.
“I think it’s time that you get the hell out of my office,” Tsunade glared at him.
“I was just leaving,” Danzo said as he took several steps, before pausing at the door. “One last thing, Tsunade. You’re already doing better than Hiruzen. Konoha is growing stronger under your rule, you’re not making the same mistakes and displaying the same weaknesses. This is the second time that Konoha has had issues with Kumo in the past decade, don’t make the same mistake as Hiruzen.”
Danzo finally left the room with the two elders in tow.
“I really don’t like that man,” Tsunade grunted before turning to me. “You doing alright, Naruto?”
“Yeah,” I replied. “He tried to use that eye of his to brainwash me, but jokes on him, I don’t have a brain to wash.”
Jiraiya let out a snort and Kakashi sighed in exasperation.
“Naruto,” Tsunade said again.
“I’m fine, really,” I waved her off. “That Genjutsu isn’t as all powerful as I initially thought it was. He ordered me to stay in order to defend Konoha, but there’s no way that I’m going to miss out on this meeting… Not to mention that I’m aware that he can plant suggestions, so it’s easier to just ignore random thoughts that appear when he’s around.”
“Good,” Tsunade accepted my explanation. “I just have a few more things I need to discuss with Jiraiya, before we can leave.”
I nodded and tuned the world out. My mind was racing as I replayed my exposure to the Kotoamatsukami over and over again. It seems that its greatest flaw is knowledge of its existence, if I hadn’t known about it, I would have seriously considered staying in Konoha and letting Danzo take my place.
Another one of its weaknesses is that the user needs to make a simple order and it needs to be something that the target would actually do. If Danzo used the Kotoamatsukami on Gai and told him to kill his students, Gai would completely refuse the order, but if Danzo told Gai that his students were ready for a high ranked mission where fatalities could occur, Gai would send his students.
The third weakness I’ve found is that if it’s used on a Jinchuriki, the biju will become aware of the manipulation.
The fourth weakness was a countermeasure that Tsunade herself had devised. The Kotoamatsukami needed to be applied to the target directly, meaning if the target was using shadow clones, the user would need to figure out which one is the original in order to use it successfully.
Don’t get me wrong, the Kotoamatsukami was still a powerful and scary Genjutsu, especially when Danzo can use it once a day, but its threat had been massively diminished to myself and those I had informed of its existence.

The trip to the land of Iron had been almost completely uneventful. There had been a team of ANBU that escorted us to the boarder where we were approached by several Samurai that were to lead us the rest of the way.
By the time we had actually entered the building where the meeting with Kumo was being held, it had become night. It was a pity. The land of Iron is a snow covered country and I’d never really seen snow before, in this life or my previous one.
“You’re early, Hokage-dono. Raikage-dono has yet to arrive,” An elderly man with bandages wrapped around his head explained. “Seeing as he is traveling by sea, Raikage-dono should be expected to arrive by tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, well, it’s better to be early when going to a meeting to avoid war than late,” Tsunade replied. “Thank you for hosting us, Mifune-dono.”
“Wise words indeed, Hokage-dono,” Mifune nodded. “I’ve taken the curtsey of preparing a room for you and your Shinobi. Come morning, the negotiation for peace may begin.”
“I’ll happily take you up on that offer.”
Mifune nodded and gestured for us to follow him. “You can rest assured that while you are here, no harm shall befall any of you. The Land of Iron prides itself on its neutrality, thus my Samurai will ensure that there will be no attempts on your lives.” Leading us down several different corridors, Mifune came to a stop by a door that had a pair of Samurai standing outside of it. “This will be your room for the night.”
“Thank you,” Tsunade replied as Mifune opened the door for us. “I will see you in the morning when the Raikage arrives.”
“Yes,” Mifune said simply as he closed the door behind us.
The room was fairly Spartan. There was only a light on the roof and three futons on the floor. No window, no bathroom. Only what was needed for a single night’s sleep.
Digging through her pockets, Tsunade produced a single coin and held it in front of me. “Naruto, call it.”
“What?”
“Heads or tails,” Tsunade said and flipped the coin into the air.
“Tails.”
“That leaves me with heads,” Tsunade replied. Catching the coin, she placed it on the back of her hand and uncovered it. “Damn, I win.”
Oh… Normally I’m not one to put much faith in things like luck, but with what I knew of Tsunade’s streak, that might be bad news. “That… doesn’t necessarily mean that you won… Kakashi’s here too, maybe he subconsciously picked heads, leaving you with sides.”
“Huh?” Kakashi hummed, looking clueless. “What’s this all about?”
“When Tsunade’s luck turns good, that generally means something bad generally happens,” I explained.
Kakashi shot a questioning gaze to Tsunade.
“Alright, here’s what’s going to happen,” Tsunade began. “I’m going to flip this coin again and this time I’m choosing sides. The two of you can choose heads or tails.”
Kakashi shrugged as Tsunade flipped the coin. “Heads.”
“Tails.”
“Sides.”
There was aloud ping as the coin hit the stone floor and bounced several times, before it came to a stop, standing on its side.
We all stared in disbelief.
“Well, fuck.”

After a restless night’s sleep, One of Mifune’s Samurai informed us that the Raikage had just entered the Land of Iron and was expected to be here within an hour. We’d been led to the meeting room where Mifune greeted us.
“Naruto,” Kurama began, his voice wary. “Remember when you asked me to keep an eye out for a certain plant… Well, it seems he’s here, observing the meeting.”
I’d been practicing staying still like Pa had instructed me, so I showed no outside reaction, but my mind was abuzz.
‘Zetsu? Which one? the half and half? The white one or the black one?’
“It would appear that it’s only the white one. He’s currently shifting through the floor,” Kurama replied. “He’s made a few stops, most notably under Tsunade’s and the Raikage’s chairs.”
‘That can’t be good.’
“No,” Kurama agreed with me. “Also look towards the Samurai guarding the room. The ones by the doors are also Zetsu clones.”
Well, I had one main advantage, at the very least. I knew that the Akatsuki was here and they were up to something, they lost the element of surprise and I’ve gained it.
Placing my hands on Kakashi and Tsunade’s shoulders, I connected my Chakra with theirs and offered a smile. “Let’s hope this meeting goes well, huh, Hokage-sama, Kakashi-sensei?” I said aloud. ‘Don’t react, there are Akatsuki members in this room.’
Kakashi twitched lightly at the sudden intrusion while Tsunade blinked and nodded.
“Yes. The Raikage isn’t an unreasonable man, I’m sure we can work out a peace treaty between our nations,” Tsunade replied. ‘Who is it? One of the Samurai?’
‘The ones guarding the doors along with another one that’s currently shifting through the ground, stopping under your and the Raikage’s chairs,’ I thought back.
“It would seem the other party of this meeting has arrived,” Mifune announced as he gestured to the door. “Raikage-dono, it is an honor to have you here.”
“Yes,” Ay nodded as he entered the room, flunked by Bee, a dark skinned man with white hair and another with light skin and blonde hair, I assumed the duo was Darui and C, but I could be wrong. “Someone needs to clean up the mess that my fool of a brother helped make.”
“Then perhaps we may begin the meeting and ensure that peace reigns between your two nations,” Mifune replied.
“The sooner this meeting can be concluded, the sooner I can get back to punishing my brother for his idiocy,” Ay grunted.
“Why so harsh, bro?” Bee asked.
“Because you and Konoha’s Jinchuriki started an international incident,” Ay snapped back. “Now let the one’s responsible for the villages fix your mistake! Hokage, where is your other guard?”
“Your message only specified one Jonin and our Jinchuriki,” Tsunade replied evenly.
“My message said to bring two Jonin and our Jinchuriki, not one,” Ay grunted.
“Then there was clearly a miscommunication or mistranslation as I read it as one,” Tsunade hummed. “It shouldn’t cause too many issues, Naruto here can fulfill his part as being the Jinchuriki along with being one of my guards.”
“Are you looking down on Kumo,” Ay asked, leveling a harsh glare at Tsunade.
Well, this wasn’t going the way that I wanted it to. If something wasn’t done, Ay might just lose his temper. “Yo Bee, long time no see,” I greeted him as I walked around the desk, stopping halfway.
“Naruto,” Bee started as he moved to join me.
“No,” Ay snapped, stopping Bee. “The whole reason we’re here now is because of your previous interaction with Konoha’s Jinchuriki!”
“What’s the harm,” Tsunade started. “We’re both Kage here and should be able to get our Jinchuriki under control should they get a little rough. It’s a rare occurrence for Jinchuriki to meet in a friendly environment.”
Ay’s eyes snapped to Tsunade and Narrowed. “Fine, but whatever comes from this… You will be held responsible.”
Tsunade smirked. “I’m perfectly alright with that.”
Bee continued onward and offered me his fist. Bumping it, the world slowed down and I was immediately greeted to Bee’s thoughts.
‘It doesn’t look like our villages are going to become allies. I told my brother about the threat of what’s to come, but he doesn’t trust it. He needs proof.’
Well, that worked out quite well. ‘There’s a member of the Akatsuki in the walls of this room right now and another two disguised as Samurai. Would exposing them be enough proof for the Raikage?’
‘Are you sure? C is a great sensor, I don’t think there’s anything that could get passed him.’
‘I’m sure,’ I thought back. ‘This Akatsuki agent can perfectly mask their chakra, but there are more ways to find someone than sensing their chakra.’
A grin came to Bee’s face. ‘If we want to catch this Akatsuki member off guard, we’re gonna have to be careful. Find the location of where they are and I’ll follow your lead.’
‘He’s on your side of the room, a little to the side of the blonde guy.’
‘Got it.’ Bee pulled his fist back. “You know, we never did get to finish our fight on the Demon Island and we’re probably not going to get another shot at each other any time soon.”
This was Bee’s way of being careful?! Picking a fight in the middle of a meeting between two Kage… I should have known. Sadly, we had to act now if we wanted to catch Zetsu, so there was no going back. “I suppose so. There’s never really going to be another opportunity as perfect as this.”
“How about it brother?”
Ay’s eyebrows twitched and he glared at Bee before turning away, resolving himself to ignore what was going on.
I watched Bee carefully as he slowly circled the room.
“It’s a hundred years too soon for the Kyuubi to be challenging Hachibi-sama.”
There. “You talk a lot of crap, you know that,” I said, pointing at Bee. “Things are going to be different this time.”
Bee stopped in his tracks and smirked at me. “Then what are you waiting for? I’ll show you which one of us is mightier, fool, ya fool.”
“Naruto,” Kakashi began, placing a hand on my shoulder. “I don’t know what you’re thinking, but starting a fight here will cause even more problems.”
“Relax Kakashi, I’ve got this,” I said calmly. Shrugging his hand off my shoulder, a three tailed cloak formed around me.
“So are we actually going to start?” Bee asked as his own three tailed cloak formed. “Or do I have to wait all day?”
“Hokage-dono, Raikage-dono, I urge the two of you to stop this fight. We can still reach a peaceful conclusion,” Mifune pleaded.
“The Hokage said that she would take responsibility for anything that happened here,” Ay began. “As far as I’m concerned, any issues, like our Jinchuriki fighting is her fault.”
“You would say that, wouldn’t you?” Tsunade smirked, looking completely relaxed. “Konoha isn’t the one that started this whole crisis, but we’ll damn well be the ones to finish it! Do what you feel is necessary, Naruto.”
A Rasengan spun to life in my hand and I kicked off towards Bee at a rapid speed. I idly noticed Ay’s eyes following my movements, focusing on the Rasengan in my hand.
As I neared Bee, he shifted out of the way and followed along with me. My Rasengan tore into the concrete wall, quickly turning it to powder while Bee punched it heavily, creating large cracks and breaking it apart.
The Rasengan dispelled in my hand and I pushed forward, grabbing onto living flesh and I tugged it out of the wall, revealing the white Zetsu that had been hiding within.
“Wha?!”
“Why hello there,” I said and threw him to the center of the room. “Everyone, allow me to introduce you all to one of the three spies that are currently in this room. A member of the Akatsuki by the name of…” Right, I had no way of logically knowing his name, so if I called him Zetsu, it would draw attention to me. “… What’s your name?”
The white Zetsu looked around rapidly, completely caught off guard, before smiling widely. “Hey everybody I’m Zetsu and I’ve come to ask one important question. What’s it feel like to poop?”
Everyone stared at him blankly, before Mifune broke the silence with a cough. “Zetsu… You’ve been caught spying on a private meeting between two Kage’s and you’ve illegally entered the Land of Iron. Cooperate and you will survive.” Mifune turned his gaze to me. “You sensed him and said that there are two more in this room. Would you please direct my Samurai towards the offending parties.”
Nodding, I pointed towards the two Zetsu clones that were disguised as Samurai. “Those two, they’re his clones.”
Turning around, Mifune glanced towards the two disguised clones. “Waterfall.”
“Um… river?” One of the clones guessed while the other looked on in silent confusion.
“Apprehend them,” Mifune ordered and the rest of his Samurai quickly surrounded the two fakes.
Glancing at Ay, I did my best to suppress the smirk that was growing on my face. “Seeing as Ts… my Hokage took all the responsibility when you wanted none, I guess all credit for foiling these Akatsuki agents goes to us.”
Tsunade chuckled silently to herself.
“C,” Ay snapped, looking displeased. “How is it that you didn’t sense this Zetsu in the walls?”
“I… don’t know, Raikage-sama. He gave off no chakra signature at all,” C admitted. “It was almost like he didn’t exist until he was pulled out of the wall.”
Ay hummed in thought. “And the other two?” He asked, shooting a glance my way. “The Kyuubi Jinchuriki said that they were his clones.”
“They have different Chakra signatures,” C replied. “They’re entirely different Shinobi.”
“I apologize for the interruption,” Mifune announced, stepping forward. “My Samurai will escort the spies out of this room and we can continue with the meeting. You have my word that, once we are finished here, I’ll be handling the investigation behind this Zetsu personally.”
“Don’t be like that,” Zetsu whined. “I didn’t want to be caught,” He said, before turning to me. “How’d you do that by the way?”
“It’s simple, you’re full of shit,” I explained. “When I entered this room, it was all I could smell. To be honest, it was actually really distracting.” The fewer people that knew about my negative emotion sensing, the better. I wouldn’t want others to figure out a way to properly suppress their emotions in order to be able to get past me.
“Wait, does it actually work like that?” Zetsu asked.
“Nope,” I replied. ‘Kurama, be ready. If the Akatsuki were planning on spying on us, they wouldn’t have sent three Zetsu clones. Something else is going on here.’
“Got it.”
“So this is a member of the Akatsuki? The organization that has Konoha on edge” Ay mused, before shooting Tsunade a smirk. “I hadn’t known that your village had grown so soft that a weakling like this has you worried.”
Tsunade’s eyebrow twitched. “Oh… The incident that started all of this was our Jinchuriki fighting on the former Demon Island. That’s an awful long way off from Kumo and I know you like to keep your Jinchuriki close to home… I wonder how he got there,” Tsunade shot Ay a pointed look. “What we have here is an infiltrations expert, not a fighter. He was almost completely undetected in a room with two Kage, Mifune and our top Jonin. Other such members include Hoshigaki Kisame, the tailless tailed beast and Uchiha Itachi who was able to kill his entire clan in the span of a single night… Now, tell me again that they’re not a threat.”
Ay glared at Tsunade before pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’ll admit that they have to potential to be dangerous.”
The way that he strained to admit that was a little ridiculous. The fact that Ay was still taking shots at Konoha was beginning to get a little old.
“Good,” Tsunade nodded. “Then perhaps we can come to an agreement to work together in order to get rid of the Akatsuki.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Ay grunted. “We can simply sign a non aggression pact. Now that we’re both aware of the Akatsuki’s machinations, our villages can handle them individually.”
“Seriously?!” I accidentally blurted out, drawing the attention of the room. Well, now that I had their attention, I may as well use it. “The Akatsuki is after the Jinchuriki and instead of working together, you would rather that every village deals with them on their own?!”
“There’s nothing to gain by working together,” Ay replied.
“Yes there damn well is,” I shot back, finally losing my temper. “Besides getting rid of the Akatsuki, working together could lead to peace between our villages.”
“Peace,” Ay laughed. “That’s a fools dream. Kumo and Konoha have never allied with each other. During each of the past Shinobi world wars, we have always been on the opposite side.”
“Then maybe we should give being on the same side a shot,” I argued. “Just opening a dialogue between our villages could mean the difference between the next Shinobi world war and a lasting peace.”
“I hadn’t taken you for a fool, but given your relation to the Yondaime Hokage, I shouldn’t be surprised,” Ay said. “There once was a time where I believed that peace between our villages could be possible, but that died with your father. Tell me, how would you guarantee that our villages working together would lead to peace?”
“Guarantee?” I hummed. I rubbed my face. What could I say that would convince him that our village could work together and live in harmony? “There is absolutely nothing I say that would guarantee that our villages could work together… but at the same time, there’s also absolutely nothing that says our villages attempting to work together is doomed to fail. If we don’t try, then the only thing that is guaranteed is that when the next Shinobi world war breaks out, we’re definitely going to be enemies… unless we take a stand now and try something different.”
Ay regarded me calmly. “Talk is cheap. If Kumo is to ally with Konoha, then Konoha will need to prove that it’s willing to risk just as much as it wants to gain.”
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Tsunade asked suddenly.
“To ally with Kumo means that Konoha is gaining the support of our Jinchuriki. Konoha will need to do the same,” Ay replied calmly. “Your Jinchuriki was able to sense the Akatsuki infiltrator, something that one of my most skilled sensors was unable to do… I would like to make use of such an ability to flush out any of the Akatsuki’s infiltrators.”
“Absolutely not,” Tsunade snapped. “Naruto isn’t just a Jinchuriki, he is also a loyal Shinobi of Konoha. Sending him to Kumo in order for you to use his ability to flush out spies would be no different from giving you a political prisoner.”
“Then Kumo will not ally with Konoha,” Ay said calmly.
“I suppose there won’t be,” Tsunade shot back. “Your demands are outrageous.”
“Wait,” I interrupted. “What would Kumo offer in return?”
“Naruto, what the Raikage is suggesting is a ridiculous demand,” Tsunade said. “He’s not intending on a true alliance, he simply wants to use your talents and weaken Konoha.”
Ay was being spiteful.
“I’m not saying you should comply,” I replied. “I’m just curious what Kumo would give us in turn. If it’s to be an equal exchange, Kumo would need to send Bee to Konoha while I’m in Kumo unless it’s a thing like I spend some time in Kumo with their Jinchuriki and then they come spend some time in Konoha with me.”

Huh, when Tsunade put it that way, I suppose I really was valuable in the political sense.
“Kumo would…“ Ay began.
“Well, this has been lovely, but I’ve really got to get going,” Zetsu interrupted.
“You’re not going anywhere,” Mifune said, placing his hand on his sword. “Attempt to leave the room in anyway will result in your death.”
“Then I guess I’ll have to leave after you’re all dead.”
“Naruto, up!”
“What?” My head snapped up as I sensed a malicious presence several kilometers in the sky.
“Raikage-sama, there is a presence approaching from the air at rapid speeds,” C announced.
I only knew of two Shinobi alive that could fly, the Sandaime Tsuchikage Onoki and Deidara. I thought it was weird that Zetsu had been shifting through the room instead of choosing a single spot and I now knew why he had been doing that. He’d been planting bombs!
‘KURAMA!’
“On it.”
Several massive orange tails shot out of my back, wrapping around Tsunade, Kakashi and myself, shielding us a single moment before the bombs detonated reducing the room to rubble.

I didn't think you could have possibly capture the Raikage's idiocy better than by having him completely ignore how frightening the Akatsuki's spying abilities are. Evidently, I was wrong, because I never imagined he would be dumb enough to try and judge the Akatsuki's threat level based on Zetsu alone, while simultaneously ignoring his infiltration abilties! Like goddamn Ay, CANON NARUTO has a higher battle IQ than you, he even figured out how to beat the previous Raikage's "impervious shield" using his own lighting spear! Canon Naruto, a teenager during the fourth Shinobi war, would have spanked Ay's ass for being this dumb! As an additional note, let's not forget that Ay lost his arm because he underestimated Sasuke's ability. Yeah, Gaara was protecting Sasuke from the Raikage's wrath, but he also protecting the Raikage in turn by defusing the situation. Kumogakure is literally known for being tougher and smarter than the other villages because they never de-militarized after signing peace treaties after the third shinobi war, but somehow Ay is their leader.

definitely more than 100 Kakashi's worth of chakra. I meant that I misunderstood the scene but what I find just insane is that Naruto with his full chakra plus the Yang half of Kurama was only approaching Madara and Hashirama's chakra levels. fucking god tier monsters those two

That's actually a really interesting question. In my opinion, the amount of Chakra Kurama has is much higher than 100 times Kakashi's chakra. 100 times seems a bit low when comparing a biju to a Shinobi, even with one as powerful as Kakashi. During the war arc, Naruto and Kurama give the remaining allied Shinobi a Chakra cloak that refills their chakra and increases their abilities by something like 2 to 3 times and even after that, they still had more than enough Chakra to continue throwing around Rasenshuriken, going into full biju mode and using bijuudama's. I might be mistaken, but in Canon, it was said that only those with powerful Chakra could contain Kurama, the seal that holds him decreases the amount of Chakra that Naruto could use, so they brought in Yamato to manually suppress Kurama with his Mokuton and the Shodaime's necklace so Naruto could access more of his own chakra without too much of a risk.

that will explode negatively for Akatsuki Attacking a Kage is almost like a declaration of war which will mean that they will have to suffer the full attention of both nations. Iwa will also have a hard time because they hire Akatsuki for some missions. Gods how much just one poorly planned mission can screw you up.

No worries man, get well though. I did have a question for you: how much chakra does Kurama have in your opinion? In the anime during the wind style training episode 55, Kakashi tells Naruto that Naruto has 4 times as much chakra as he does and that if Naruto wasn’t suppressing the 9 Tails it would be 100 times as much. Till I read this fic I always thought what was being said was that Kurama has 96 times as much chakra as Kakashi plus Naruto’s 4x adding up to make the 100x chakra that Kakashi spoke of, not that Naruto normally only has access to 4% percent of his total chakra.

Thanks man. The thing about the Akatsuki is that they didn't expect anyone to be able to sense Zetsu or his clones, so to them it was a risk free mission that would have only furthered their goals. Without Naruto and Kurama, no one would have known that the Akatsuki was involved at all. All anyone would know was that there was an attack in the land of Iron when two feuding Kage were meeting.

The chapter was well written. Putting the elderly in their place, oh how satisfying. Danzo must have been furious that his precious eye wasn't working the way he expected, possibly he'll do something sillier at some point. Akatsuki attack two kage? It's basically a fucking declaration of war and they're not exactly ready, how exactly did they expect to get their way?

Nah man, wanting Danzo dead is a good thing, natural even. Lol, sorry about the cliffhanger, I would have added a bit more at the end there to at least open with the fight that's going to happen in the next chapter, but I've been sleeping off a bad cold this week.
