A Very Confused Pokemon Adventure (8-12)
🕑 Added 2024-12-09 12:07:08 +0000 UTCWhew! I'd hoped to have this out last night, but didn't quite make it. The writing was done, but it still needed its editing pass. Honestly, even then, the only reason this wasn't done days ago was the amount of research I had to do. Since 2B is properly off on her Pokemon Journey now, I needed to nail down a bunch of things I'd left somewhat nebulous before. Which means that, yes, there is a bit of info dumping in the chapters. It's pretty spread out among other bits, though, so I think it'll read fairly smoothly. The end result is just barely shy of the 15k target, too. By only like 41 words, so I think I did pretty good ;-).
There is also going to be a bunch of author's notes this time, though, in the comments. If you end up having questions about anything in the chapters? Take a lot at those first. Since they will address a bunch of different things. Like who the heck the new person she meets in these chapters is, if you're not familiar with her. A two notes though, on things I've pinned down that aren't spoilers.

1) The way I'm treating the timeline, many of both the Anime and Game events have or are happening. I'm treating every 'League' or similar that Ash took part in as a single year. Note, not every season. But every League. I.E. his Kanto and Johto journeys were a year each, as were Hoenn, Shinnoh, etc. With a few exceptions that couldn't reasonably have been that long. When 2B first arrived, Ash was in Unova (Black & White). As 2B starts her own Journey, he's moved on to Kalos. Not everything may line up perfectly, since Pokémon doesn't really have a proper timeline (what with Ash not aging), but that gives you a general idea.
2) Remember that in this fic, Pokémon Journey's generally start between the ages of 14-16. Ash started his as young as possible. But most people start at 15. 2B is physically 16, with it not being too unusual for people to start at that age either. Particularly if they did something for a year involving learning about Pokémon first (as 2B did with the Ranch). Each time along the his Journey that Ash met new companions, I'm assuming by default they were 15. Excluding individuals like Brock that were older. With them, it's 15+However much older they were. For reference, the character 2B will meet in these chapters is therefore 17 going on 18. As it's been two years since he encounter her on her own first Journey.

All done as promised...till you release the next Displaced Hero chapters of course!

I'll consider the checklist idea :-p. It sounds fun, if I can come up with some ideas for it. I've actually never used Chinchou, but always thought it was a good design and type combination. In the games I played that had it, though, by the time you could actually get it I'd usually already locked my team in -_-. Since most of the early Kanto pokemon suuuuccck though, I decided it was a good option for 2B. Particularly since it let me have get fail a common sense check right on Day 1 ;-). Yep, the poor pokemon world is not going to be ready for 2B's methods...

I think it would be awesome if you have the first real “battle” be from the “other guys” perspective. With his mind constantly breaking from suit like moon machine gun. XD

3 things. 1. I NEED that common sense checklist. Could we please at least have one entry from that list per chapter or something. That would be hilarious. 2. I’m so happy someone is giving Chinchou some respect. If I was issecied into Pokémon he would be one of my six 3. I can’t wait for 2B battling debut. Everyone’s eyes are going to bulge. It’s gonna be so funny.

If you go with it you’ll need to be careful, there’s a fine line between a signal flare and a Glory Girl style aura. Writing the difference without pulling attention to it will be difficult. Alternatively go all in on it crack style and have our MC be propositioned by random Pokémon

Well, I'd intended it to be the 'noticing something strange.' But the Lure affecting Zoey is actually potentially useful down the line, and works with some other ideas I have in mind. So I might decide to steal that idea and mention it at some point ;-). If it did, though, it was very mild effect.

I can’t tell if the aura lure directly affected Zoey, as we were quite literally broadcasting “here I am and I am looking for friends” or if it was just her noticing something strange

Author's Note Chapter 12: A/N: I know some of you are going to wonder about 2B's sexuality, given the last bits of this chapter. I could string you all along, but I don't really see the need too. I'm effectively intending to depict this 2B as pansexual. She knows what relationships are, and all about sex. Androids WERE canonically capable of both in Neir: Automata. If they were interested. 2B specifically, because of the role she was charged with/created for, is rather stunted in connecting that intellectual knowledge with emotional understanding, however. Hence she can recognize when someone is attracted to her, but doesn't quite know what to do with that information just yet. As she humanizes more, for her the physical gender bits are going to be less important than the emotional bits. So, she'll basically be connection-sexual. That is, if she forms a strong connection of the right type with someone, she'll be open to the idea of sex/relationships. What exactly that means will most likely be open to later review/discussion. No pokephilla in this story. I refuse to allow any Vaporeons to come to emotional harm to appease the weirder section of the internet ;-).

Author's Note Chapter 11: A/N 1: Zoey being bothered by 2B not seeming to quite be into her 'purpose' is another reason why I ended up choosing Zoey. As a Rival, she actively went out of her way to ground Dawn, while also building her up. She will be acting as a slow but persistent source of prodding in order to get 2B to really, properly, move past her programming and figure out who she is and what she wants as an individual. A/N 2: Zoey being attracted to 2B. No, this doesn't necessarily mean they'll get together. I haven't decided on pairings for this fic yet. But I added the little details showing she IS at least physically attracted to 2B so that I CAN use her as a pairing if I (and most likely Patrons voting) decide she's a good fit.

Author's Note Chapter 10: A/N 1: So, obviously, I'm trying to flesh out how the Gyms/Leagues work as I go. The way they work in both the cartoon and games alike is...utterly nonsense. The Contests in the show are better, but even those are very...limited. A lot of what you'll see me doing has been done before, like Gym's having different levels of challenge for those doing different badges (number wise). That's a pretty common adaptation. So far as I know, what I've done with the Divisions is original to me (I haven't run across it, at least). It makes sense to me, though. Not only does throwing brand-new trainers into the same exact League Conference as veteran trainers sound like the height of stupidity, but splitting it this way also provides an actual excuse for Ash's habit of only taking Pickachu with him between Leagues. If he's essentially always running Division 1 Leagues, then the rules I've established make it make 100% sense. He would only be allowed to take his starter along between Leagues, and mostly only for protection and to help catch new Pokémon. That this also allows me to retool Zoey's team with new Pokémon, so I'm not locked into her Contest lineup, is another advantage. It will even allow me to do something similar with 2B's team when she eventually travels abroad. If I so choose. Or, if I want to keep her core Pokémon around, I can simply have her aim for Division 2 in one League or another. A/N 2: The multiple perspectives is something I decided I was going to need from the start. Which is actually why I introduced a companion so quickly. 2B is a very unreliable narrator in this, and having an outside viewpoint to show how surreal some of her actions are is something I felt was going to be needed. I was already doing it with Daisy and Prof Oak. Now Zoey will be the primary alternate perspective. For the time being, at least. A/N 3: Zoey's Purugly is the logical conclusion of the fact that's she's been operating with what was originally her Glameow for multiple years at this point. Unless she intentionally held it back, it's virtually certain to have evolved.

Author's Note Chapter 9: A/N 1: Who's that girl! So, who the heck is Zoey? For those (like me) who haven't actually watched much of the anime/cartoon, Zoey is Dawn's primary rival in the Diamond and Pearl seasons. Unlike most of Ash's rivals, who tend to me enormous assholes, Zoey was actually friendly to Dawn. To the point of helping train her at times. Originally, I had intended to use Dawn herself. I'd never actually seen Diamond and Pearl, though, so I figured out where I could watch them online and started doing so...only to quit pretty quickly because they are horrifically bad. Seriously, the show (at least those seasons) is painful to watch. Someone needs to take 90% of the VAs out back and beat emotions into them for one thing. I watched JUST enough, and read through the Wiki on Dawn enough, to realize she was actually a terrible fit for what I wanted. Which caused me to look around for someone else from generally the same time period. Zoey is who I settled on. Why? Because she actually DOES fit pretty well, has a reasonably defined story/personality, and there was a legitimately logical way I could tie her in as being in Kanto doing the Gym Circuit there. One note. If you look her up? Yeah, she doesn't look much like her canon counterpart. Those characters are 10, whereas I upped the average starting age to 15 for Pokémon Journey's and she's 17 now. Also, whoever was in charge of fashion for the characters of those seasons needs to be taken out, shot, cremated, then shot into orbit on a path out of the solar system to rid us of the horror that is their fashion sense. I mostly work with 3D assets, but I've still needed to develop a decent sense of basic fashion over the years so that my characters don' t look like clowns. The Diamond and Pearl characters don't look like clowns. They look WORSE. Holy mother of fashion and style, I couldn't have come up with color combinations that hideous when I was SIX. Who the fuck hired those people and let them design characters that actually aired on TV?! I'll try to find a better redhead for you to imagine her by at some point. Because I refuse to inflict what I was forced to see with my own eyeballs on all of you.

Author's Note Chapter 8: A/N : Day 1 and 2B's already done something weird! By normal people standard's, at least. I mentioned before that 2B won't be strictly limited to the 151 traditional Kanto Pokémon. This is part of why. Not only is it logical that there be some migration between Kanto and Johto on account of them being connected, but I looked up Routes 26 and 27. Both of them are considered KANTO Routes, despite not appearing until Gen II as the connection point to Johto. That means that there are two routes with some Johto Pokémon that are outright officially part of Kanto. Three, actually, since Route 28 is the same way.
