Like what is driving you to give so much to a person who is so clearly incapable of reciprocating right now (and often treats you very poorly)? why are you showing up to incredibly personal and traumatic events without an invite or the history of a relationship that would let you know you're wanted 😭? Right, it's complicated and devastating! I believe the version of the mother that's haunting them is conjured by the house, and not really her spirit. It seems to me like Nell saw her mother's true spirit at her wedding (the version that's usually with their father). But I wont know for sure until the end 😭

Everyone tends to treat it as so romantic (even the narrative of the show) & meanwhile I've always been like... no. That's a step into Stalker Territory and a Leap into Inappropriate Zone.

"Why is everyone such a good actor too?!" The awesome thing is nearly all these performers return again and again in all of Flanagan's projects. They're his troupe. And you start to get the impression that he writes many of these roles with many of these specific people in mind. Sometimes they have larger, expanded roles, sometimes they have bit parts, but always they are cozy, comfy faces we've come to love watching bring his material to life.

She just wanted to be accepted, flaws and all, and that ultimately led up to her death. I don't know why, but that scene with Mr. Dudley has always stuck with me many years after watching the show. The way he delivers his lines, the way he tells the story, it just touches me so much. I can't wait for you to finish the show; you're going to be gagged. This truly is one of, if not the best, TV series I have ever seen, and I recommend it to literally everyone i meet

You're one of the few reactors I've seen who understands just how TERRIFIED Steven is all of the time. His relentless need to conquer his fear has made him hyper-rational to the point of insufferability -- and yet his subconscious knows just how off things are, just how wrong he is, but he can't admit that to himself because he's afraid of losing more. He feels he failed his mother and Nell. We've seen in flashbacks just how close he and Luke were, but losing his little brother to addiction was preferable to having even a moment's empathy because then he would be forced to confront just how little control he actually has. As you get closer to the end, it becomes easier to sympathize with Steve but, in many ways, he's still inscrutable. So much of himself is unknown to himself that, when his rationality fails him, he's completely undone, but in the most hopeful manner I've ever seen. What deft characterization. Flanagan has a real gift.

"the show is emotionally traumatizing" is the best way to put it😭 Hugh (dad) just always liked to fix things around the house and try to calm down the situation with the family dynamics so it kinda baffles me that he let the relationships with his kids get that sour but after everything the family has been through it's no surprise he closed off as sad as it is. now momma Olivia...why the hell are you haunting Luke at Nellie's funeral when people already don't trust him fully because of the addiction...at least you came back and gave Theo and Hugh some fright as well so I guess they'll believe him💀 the Dudleys story...maaan 💔

Being able to see each side of the family in their own personal way with each episode has given another piece of a puzzle, almost being able to make out the full picture. The father just really wants to fix everything he can and tries so hard. I feel so connected to his character in a way that I, too, just want to help and fix things. Sometimes just being there and listening is the best medicine. Hugs too. Long-lasting hugs also help. Here’s one if anyone needs it 🤗

Listening to you talk about family makes me realize I had a really bad relationship with mine. There would be things that characters would say to each other and I'm thinking "yup, that sounds about right." And then you would say something like "you shouldn't do that" or talking about what your father used to say to you and your sisters and im realizing I never had that. This family disfunction in this show feels normal to me and thats probably why I'm so mentally ill and broken now as an adult
