All of those lonnnng tracking shots led to that payoff of the kids chasing Gladys. This movie was rough in the theater, for the most part, because of the pace but it all paid off. My theater absolutely died laughing at Gladys getting chased. This is absolutely about school shootings, through and through.

Omg loved reading this so much! I love the narrative structure too— the character vignettes are so perfectly ordered and paced. If not for Gladys, Paul would be the villain of this movie. He lied to both Justine and Donna, was obviously quick to escalate to violence, but you know what really blows my mind? Paul got stuck with a needle, and was soooo concerned he could catch something, that he has what was most likely unprotected sex with Justine. Also can you imagine running into Donna NOW?! 😬

Love the reaction Alanda, what’s also sad is the writer/director said the final story Alex while involving fantasy elements the story is meant to be autobiographical as he lived with an alcoholic parent so the horror of enduring the school day just to go home and hide from your zombie parent while also having to take care of yourself is suppose to really reflect in the story.

Miss Gandy is MESSY. We love to see a fully flawed leading lady. I liked how they framed her in the beginning as this untrustworthy source. We have to start with her because as soon as we hear what went down, she is clearly going to be our suspect #1. But she proved to be very adept at slipping and sliding away from her attackers - Paul, Marcus and even Donna. Gandy was always crawling to her rescue on the ground. Bless her heart. I like the subtle context we get of Sara Paxton's character not wanting to deal with Archer and Justin Long's flinching when he gets up close and immediately giving him what he wants even though he acknowledges this is hard for him to watch the footage of his daughter running away. Seeing Archer's kid as the bully and knowing Archer laments not saying "I love you?" Yep, yep, yep. That is not a nice man, but he runs on business. Paul and James were both shown to be rather unsympathetic. Cheater, cheater pumpkin eater and Mr robs a lot and only cares about his next fix. Addiction is hard and both of these characters suffered, but also seemed pretty toxic in how they managed their issues. So them being the ones we lost means we get the HORROR, but we're not too sad about who had to go. MARCUS AND HIS CUTIE HUSBAND ON THE OTHER HAND? Devastating. They managed to convey what a perfect little match they were in such a short space of time that when they're gone, you actually care a lot more. If only Marcus' husband wasn't so eager to help (and gawp) at a camp Queen. Poor little Alex was the key to all and Cary Christopher who plays him was brilliant. One teensy gripe (I love the movie), when the parents are hurting themselves with the cutlery, Alex tried to physically stop his dad. I can buy it because they showed the two in the car together having wee chats, which implies they are very close. But the majority of people would have tried to help their mum first. The lack of mum was one of the "You can tell this was written by a man" things for me. As great as the script is and knowing there are plenty who would go to dad first and have a better relationship with their dad, the majority would go to mum. So that felt a bit untruthful. But who cares because WITCH. This isn't a docudrama. Aunt Gladys will become a horror icon and Amy Madigan deserves all the accolades. What a unique and unhinged take on a witchy psychopath. The parasite that she was needing all those kids energy or souls or whatever because mum and dad didn't fix her funk - incredible. A new classic. I hope we still get YouTube edits of all the reactions that have been uploaded here because I know everyone will be perched to see Alanda's reaction to IKWYDLS (2025), The Substance, Sinners and our Witchy Weapons.
