yeah death is usually rare in shonen. and if it happens it is a big deal, like Ace. And of course at the end we expect our guys to win, because usually shonen arcs have happy endings.

Akainu killed Ace - there are plenty of threats in OP. It's just not common for many shows, especially shonen, to kill off MAIN characters. Or for people to be dropping dead left and right - it's not AOT ^^'

no one really is a threat in one piece. remember that everybody that recieved attacks from enel ended up surviving? the powerful poisonous gases created by ceasar also never kills

Although, people have the same complaints about Luffy and his crew. So it is nice to see, that other powerful people can also get themselves into stupid situations, in spite of how powerful they are. To be fair about the Cake Rampage, she wasn't weak in that moment, the entire time they kept running from her. She just seemed powerless because she couldn't catch up to them. It was pretty clear though, if she had caught up to them, she would have destroyed them.

That said, I am kinda mad Oda always finds a way to make her not a threat, first with the cake rampage then with the memory loss and now she just falls unconcious, it all feels a bit too convenient for the story

I think the reason why Big Mom lost conciousness was simply because she didn't use haki to protect herself, I don't think she remembered how to use haki and it seems obvious that Queen would use his best haki against her so it kinda makes sense the attack did a lot of damage

That scene with Toko is much more touching when we remember that Robin lost everything around her age, including her mother she just met. She understands exactly how Toko feels and that's why you can see how bad Robin feels for the little girl.
