Based on what I read I don’t think this is unique to Japan 🥲 my country also struggles to take care of orphans. And I’m sure there are many more than Japan has (statistically)

what does it mean "social stigma regarding the adoption of orphans". What is the stigma?

RIP Osamu Kobayashi There is no narrative, it simply exists. He came in to do concept art and image boards for The Last, stayed to do these fillers. Japan has a social stigma regarding the adoption of orphans. Also, in episode 159/chapter 449: when Kakashi is talking to his dad in limbo, Sakumo says "What a shame both you and I would die such early deaths...though not as early as your mother" The presumption would be that she died in childbirth.
