I really do like how we get small flashbacks seeing the party's adventures. Everytime, it highlights their individual characteristics. I don't know why, but I like it better this way than seeing it all in the typical fantasy anime where its ABOUT their journey to defeat the demon king. Seeing it in snippets of memories years after the ending of the journey makes this feel more real and idk.. alive? It makes their time together more intimate and special. Especially for Frieren. This show feels more like a rememberance of past loved ones than any other normal story. A way to convey the meaning of cherishing the connections you have in your life right now. Frieren has regrets but her sadness over those regrets isn't over the top dramatic like anime typically is. Her sadness is more conveyed through her actions of trying to capture and remember the things her party members held dear. Like she did with the blue weed flowers for Himmel. She could have just cleaned up the statue and left it at that. But she just had to add the extra effort to put flowers that she knew Himmel cherished from his hometown and wanted to show her. I'm loving the show so far as well. I wouldn't mind if it stayed as quiet as it is right now. Cos that's the kind of show its established itself as. A self reflection of past life, and moving forward cherishing every experience made. Thats it. It doesn't need to be anything else.
