Vegeta's part in beating Gohan never happened in manga. Also, in the first version of anime that you actually watch, TOEI usually loves to downplay Vegeta. Even DBSuper faced the very same problem. In manga, Vegeta is cool, but in anime, he usually shows up as a loser, and that is not what Toriyama ever planned.

If you skip the filler now, you won't go back to it for sure. It'll be much less exciting. If you skip it, I'd suggest asking someone to let you know what happened in them because a character from the filler gets brought back later into canon

I like watching some of the fillers because it shows what the charecters are up to during the down time even if it's not canon so I think it's worth watching them at least once. It's also better if you watch them now because I can guarantee that you won't want to go back later to watch them and they won't fit anywhere in the story later.

i wanted to tell you about Bardock in a Dragonball Super movie there is a different Story about him. Toriyama updated and changed a lot of his personality and story. I think this is the reason why one guy told you Bardock is neutral to Goku. Dragonball Super condtradcit some aspects of Dragonball Z.

Great reaction as always! I didn’t even notice you were in pain. I just thought the inconsistency with Vegeta filler had completely messed with your brain. 😂 Also If I had your luck during my first watch, I definitely would have skipped that filler arc because, in my opinion, it’s really not great. The worst part is that back in the day, since TV controlled everything, we’d reach episode 117 all hyped up like you, thinking “New era! New era!” Then the next week, boom, back to episode 1 😅💀. Besides DBZ already has more than enough filler moments and episodes here and there, as you’ve unfortunately discovered here with ep 106. But entire filler arcs? Yeah rough… As for the movies, like your chat mentioned, they’re kind of weird. They’re not really canon, they fit awkwardly (or not at all) into the timeline, and Toriyama wasn’t the one writing the scripts he was just watching from a distance while doing a bit of character design here and there. But I think to get the full DBZ experience, at some point, you’ll have to check them out if you have the time. My DBZ experience wouldn’t be the same without them, and honestly, some of my favorite moments in the entire DBZ lore come from the movies. You know… a lot of I.C.O.N.I.C. moments in there (🤣). Now that you’re already pretty far in, it’s probably best to finish the series first and then watch them all at once. Otherwise, it’ll feel weird, like you’re constantly going back in time, kind of like what happened here.

It was downright comical to watch the 106 ending and 107 beginning, I didn't remember it being this jarring. What an utterly pointless fight. Also, good job master tactician Piccolo sama, you have no idea how Vegeta is going to react to being on Earth, you could really only count on yourself and Gohan double teaming him if he starts rampaging, and you just let him wreck the kid for free.. The filler arc is pretty lame, it's excruciating to watch just how much they are struggling against those clown villains after them being able to put up somewhat of a fight against Freeza. If you watch it, then make sure to have the skip 5 seconds forward button in a convenient spot.

Garlic Jr. trying to kill Piccolo and Kami before using the DragonBalls does get made fun of in the Abridged version of the movie. You should check out DBZ Abridged when you finish the series.

over the years it's clear that either people cannot "put on hold" their fanaticism for a character that has built up over many, many years... or, some just want to play devil's advocate because they can - even when it doesn't match the tone of a show or reaction. When it comes to DBZ though, I think the former is more relevant than the latter.

At this point in the story, Vegeta is clearly meant to be an unlikeable villain, or as we call them in wrestling, a "heel". The earthlings came to a situation where they had to work together with him to overcome a bigger threat, and I could empathize with working with someone you don't like in order to face a common, deadlier enemy. However, the feeling I got was "we'll deal with you later, once we get Freeza out of the way". I'm not surprised at people wanting to defend Vegeta, because in other forms of media, you have a small fraction of people who will cheer for the "heel", whether it be because they want to be different, they have a connection with that character, or some other personal reason. If we were watching the history channel, there would be some people defending Hitler. Some people just can't be reasoned with.

That filler arc is legitimately the only batch of episodes that I skip on a watch-through. Up to you though because you may not want to go back later.

When I was younger used to think Garlic Jr and Pilaf were the same person because they look similar and they share the same voice actor in English. It was before I got into DragonBall. I also thought Garlic Jr.’s big form was Piccolo when I saw the commercial for the Budokai Tenkaichi games.
