Patreon fee change
🕑 Added 2017-12-07 16:40:21 +0000 UTC Hi this is important for patreons and I just found out today.Aparently Patreon is going to change how it charges fees, at them oment the content creator pay patreon the transaction fees plus the 5% for them, so if you pledge 1 usd, I pay atm 5% of that to patreon and around another 5% to processing fees.
Patreon is going to change that to charge the processsing fee from the content creator to the user charging 0.35 cents + 2.9% of the pledege, so if you had a 1 usd pledge patreon would charge you 1.38 usd.
for a 5 usd pledge it would be 5.5 usd, and for 10 usd pledges it would be 10.64 usd.
these changes do work in favor of the creator tough since it will take off the payment processor burden off them.
I would like to hear your opinions about the situation, I m workign on revamping my website and this is one more reason to do so.
one of the options is to lower the pledge rewards slightly to absorb the change, but that's not an option for the 1 usd patreons
I will try to keep up with this and keep you informed about it.

yea I have to consider that, i jsut worried mostly about the 1 usd patreons sicne relative to their pledge the hit is important

hmm more or less if your pledge was 1 usd you will be charged an aditional 38 cent from my math, if your pledge was 5 usd then it would be an aditional 50 cents.

I agree with Chibi. Night You don't have to absorb these price changes and hurt your income. It's not your fault that Patreon have decided on that. People here will eventually adapt.

nod it is a good point, and you are right about the fluctuation, it could help make things morestable, will see how things turn out for now, but first step is to make sure patreosn arei nformed right ^^

thanks, yea these are some good points, and marking up the full price to be charged on the pledge description would be a good thing to avoid patreons having a surprise

I agree with Chibi on both accounts, also disclosing information in their as to how much the person would be charged as with the fees and such will give the supporter the full price tag of each tier. but that choice is up to you man.

Also, I don't think you should adjust your prices. The change will be across all of Patreon, so while there will be some adjustment period, I don't think it's practical to try and soak it.

I think the change is a positive one. I've noticed some big fluctuation on how much payout I get as a creator from month to month... It'd be nice to have those fees set ahead of time.
