It'd be a great twist for Uryu to have brutalized Renji to use as a target for the Antithesis, to swap those fatal(?) wounds to someone else later. I get that he uses the Antithesis like this after his fight with Haschwalth but considering that entire Uryu/Renji fight was created for the anime, it'd be great for it to serve a purpose beyond building Uryu's villain cred.

Doesn’t Hisagi put himself back together with his Bankai? Also I’m sure Renji isn’t dead dead unless they are making a MASSIVE change. I’m sure he’ll be healed and will be back to it. As for showing Shinji’s bankai, I don’t think that one necessarily contradicts CFYOW. I don’t think they are gonna animate that one but they did want to show it in the anime. If anything, it shows that his bankai is consistent between anime and the novels. I do agree, I hope they don’t decanonize the novels, but it doesn’t come off to me that they plan to just yet.

Not only that. Hisagi and Renji are "dead", Shinji's bankai was already shown. Soul King stuff seems to be getting retconned. Things just don't add up for me and it makes me worried, because I like the stuff that's included in this novel.

It’s been a bit since I read CFYOW, but are you saying that because of Candice and Meninas being zombies? If so, Bambi was eventually de-zombified, so isn’t is possible that the other two could be as well?

Also my initial thought on the Soldat is that they are similar to the black goo Yhwach expelled when he absorbed the Soul King. Now that Yhwach has full absorbed the Soul King he’s able to create these foot soldiers from his own excess power which is why they have his eyes on them. Super interested to see where this goes but also really excited to see an extended/new fight with the Bambi’s!

Loved the episode! I agree, the soundtrack was amazing throughout and especially those high points. The new ending does leave a lot of tantalising possibilities...if we can get dead sternritter back for a big final hurrah that would be both insane and I would be 110% for it

I really loved this episode - it may be a little cheesy but my wife and I are about to welcome our first baby girl in March and just seeing this exchange with Nemu sacrificing herself for Mayuri really tug on my heart in a way that it didn’t when I read the manga. I think they really did a wonderful job with this! Also LOVED the post credit scenes with the Bambi’s and Bazz B, I am so hyped to see the new stuff with all them!

God, I'm wondering if Liltotto and the Bambies are going to have a full on fight with Yhwach and the Soldat. Maybe the Soldat shown are resurrected Quincy, given new twisted life by Yhwach and perhaps are an example of unending life he seeks to create. Perhaps he may resurrected more than just Soldat, like a few Sternritters perhaps. Who knows it just fun to think about and theorized for the next week.
