If you were to do anything with the heat treatment of this thingy, especially in terms of the lasting for a hundred years thing, I would say case harden the teeth/ratchet head and add a blob(TIG or Torch manual 3dprinting style) of a Hard bronze/brass to the lockey-pokey arm... I'd also pack it with a good sticky moly infused schmoo
