conservatives make no sense to me it's like the only thing they care about is being contrarian to any semblance of the truth. They always emphasize "facts over feelings," yet reject pretty much all actually sound scientific research, while also pushing specifically harmful (not to mention unnecessary) advancements. they say trans people are evil bc they go against the nature of what "god" created, yet also seem to literally never gaf about nature otherwise. i don't think any one of them has ever reflected and wondered why they believe the things they do it's truly mind boggling. it's definitely possible to trace back in history how all these ideas emerged but it's fascinating that somehow this large of a group of people have never seriously reflected on the foundations of their beliefs at all.

They always make this same smooth-brain argument that if something doesn't 100% perfectly solve everything it's bad and we shouldn't do it. Look at gun control, they make the same argument that even if it reduces deaths some criminals will still get guns so doing anything is bad. Or homelessness, if we raise wages there will still be some poor people so we shouldn't do anything. It's the only argument they have and it's transparently dumb to anyone with at least a double digit IQ.

So the problem with recycling is that some of it ends up polluting the environment, but also polluting the environment is good and we should have all our trash just dumped there instead because thats better? When i was younger one of the key radicalizing moments for me was when an older relative said to me "we can't do anything about climate change until someone figures out a way to profit from fixing it", and they didn't say it as a cynical joke or a criticism of capitalism. They said it like it's a law of physics or something, like it's simply impossible to do even if we wanted to. They weren't sad or angry about it, they just accepted that's how things are. It really stuck with me and caused me to have some sort of existential crisis basically. The idea that we can't save ourselves from the biggest threat humanity has possibly ever faced unless some fat leech can get rich off of it and that some people accept this reality was just soul crushing and still is.

Like, we often hear about climate disasters so much that the term "climate refugee" is starting to be used for people who lost their homes in these events. I know it was just a joke, but directing it at republicans and calling them snowflakes may diminish the real actual climate crisis, and that we absolutely should be scared of, and should be debating it, and should be organizing our movements around it.
