I see Albumoftheyear as an elegant Sunday evening dinner party where everyone's friendly towards each other and laughing at each other's jokes whilst drinking super modestly. Meanwhile, Rateyourmusic is a disastrous Friday night out on the lash where each pub you go into has some obnoxious up to horrific encounter/situation. Basically everything that can go wrong does, horribly!
I disagree on the whole RYM thing. While it certainly is chaotic I've found it to be a very inclusive community for myself and one of the best resources available to find and learn about new music.

i way prefer RYM to aoty, i love arguing with morons it’s like tnd’s comment section where people just say “i love it bc it’s good your opinion is bad”
his take on RYM is so spot on it's crazy, that site is great and sucks at the same time. sad my take didn't get chosen from but i'll try it again next month since i'll die on symbolic hill
