Nevermind is definitively better than In Utero. The songwriting is better, the album is more focused and consistent, and the production is (deliberately) far more flattering. Saying In Utero is better has become the “pick me” music take, but without Nevermind we’re not talking about Nirvana today at ALL.

2025 has been a very strong year for music so far. Smaller artists like McKinley Dixon, Backxwash, Infinity Knives, Richard Dawson etc... have released amazing projects and the mainstream artists like Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga have also delivered great albums. I think that we are seeing a mutual greatness between the smaller and mainstream artists in quite some time.

Cake is obviously known for their funky bops on albums like Fashion Nugget and Prolonging The Magic, but their debut album Motorcade of Generosity is super slept on. It’s essentially an all-time alt-country classic in my opinion.

I felt it was contradictory of you to say that Chapell Roan was justified in saying it wasn't her responsibility to share her opinion on politics/ endorse a candidate when people were hounding her. But then say it was Thom Yorke's responsibility to make a political statement on Gaza. My stance is that we don't need or shouldn't expect any meaningful political discourse from celebrities and we need to stop asking them for it. This isn't a comment about the substance of Thoms note. Just to say you can't give some artists a pass and other not. None of them are going to change the situation and so asking them for their opinion just feels like performative para social scapegoating.

Anthony would you ever consider reviewing Chris Morris' Jam for a classic review. I know it's an odd request and it technically radio broadcastings, but the reason I ask this is because Rateyourmusic and Albumoftheyear have been treating this as an album, you've previously reviewed a live album for a classic review and it creates for an interesting discussion around what an album can be can extend beyond our standard understanding.

I've Come to a realization that there is a dichotomy amonst music nerds and music snobs as music snobs need everything pitch perfect and percise in the traditional sense as music nerds or passionate music listeners love mostly all music and have the ability to contexualize as music snobs put everything all in one box ...so what am I asking is do you feel the same way and do you typically distance yourself from music snobs unless you're debating them

Artist often complain about how bad it is to work with record labels. But then if they become successful enough, they go independent and start their own label to bring in artists, but then THOSE artists complain about their deals being restrictve and then THEY eventually leave to form their own label. And the cycle continues. Is there just no escaping the continuation of labels?

First: I agree with your feelings about their discography and their history/impact. Second: I agree with many of your critiques on the album, and I admit that they even deserved some of your sharper licks too. But this album wasn’t a 4/10. The interludes are typically what contribute a lot to the atmosphere of their work. It’s the connective tissue between the bangers that - to me - provide (a ton of!) the character. The first half of their body of work is the shining example of this. Including their EP, Opiate. The interludes are the worst part of this album. It was hollow without them. But the major songs on it definitely made Fear Inoculum worthy of a 6, Fantano! 😂 …🥹🙏

I hate to say this because I love the guy but for the last 15 years, Serj Tankian from SOAD has not sounded good live. I’m not saying we should expect the most nowadays, cause the dudes like 60 now and to do what he did on Toxicity nowadays isn’t a fair standard to set him at. BUT we gotta stop lying to ourselves acting like he’s still got it when he clearly just doesn’t anymore. I loved his over the top vocals from back in the day but I think we need to admit to ourselves that the guy kinda painted himself into a corner in terms of vocal longevity (especially live). All this just makes the live shows feel like even more of a cash grab than they already are. Note: this is only regarding the live SOAD shows, not his solo material

"Classic rock" is too wide an umbrella term to hold any meaning. Basically any band from the 60s through the 80s, and now some from the 90s, are lumped in together and sound nothing alike. Radio is to blame for the homogenization of old rock music, which I'm sure at the time was just referred to as "rock" anyway

Sabrina’s cover is for sure really provocative but at the end of the day it’s eliciting dialogue around women’s objectification and artistic freedom, and that’s a good thing. It’s controversial way to generate discourse but i feel like the message behind the marketing is more complex than what people are making it out to be.

The new “Best Album Cover” Grammy category will only be a great addition to the show if they disqualify use of AI and actually give credit to the person/people who made the album cover instead of only the artist who most likely is only choosing it. (Which deserves credit in its own right)

Defensive take: People should be allowed to admit that they don’t like instrumental jazz. Personally I prefer more vocals and conventional song craft with my jazz. I feel like this sentiment is HEAVILY frowned upon. It’s an acquired taste! I think it’s perfectly OK to hear Miles Davis and go, “yeah, that’s great, but it’s not for me.”
