Maybe that was what Patricia was aiming at, not to train/punish Gabby but to wake up Emma into actually being a girlfriend.

We did get an inside glimpse of Patricia also. She's never had a girlfriend. She's just been a dominatrix to women, not a friend, although I would believe she has been friends with other dominatrixes, like Catherine Neal. Kind of sad really. Patricia had only used her phenomenal manipulation skills for domination only.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise (as Gomer Pyle would say) it looks like Emma does care for gabby, wanting her to speak up and express her opinions. Even if Emma wouldn't like them. I think there is hope for this relationship after all.
