Version 0.14 & End of 2025 Status Update

For this status update, I've decided to combine my 0.14 plans with a look back on 2025 and my plans moving forward into 2026, so there will be a lot to cover!
Baldi's Basics Plus version 0.14
Firstly, my plan is for version 0.14 to be an update focused on bug fixes, balancing and QOL improvements. For real this time! This is something I had initially planned to do about a year ago, but that update ended up focused on the tutorial, which I think was the right move at the time. Now more than ever though I feel the game is in need of a polish focused update. This timing works out quite well too, as stickers were the last major new feature I planned on adding during the early access period. This means that, once most existing issues are taken care of, there shouldn't be many major new issues popping up in future updates. So 0.14 will hopefully be the only polish focused update needed for the remainder of the early access period.
Timeline wise, 0.14 can be expected sometime in February. Similar to the last holiday season, this means the time between 0.13 and 0.14 will be longer than usual. In the meantime though I still plan on pushing out an update to address some of the bigger issues introduced in 0.13. I will, for example, add stacking when the player has multiple of the same sticker, which will display a number next to a sticker you have multiple of instead of just displaying all duplicates individually. Not sure how I didn't think of that solution earlier!
2025 Review
2025, all things considered, has been an incredible year for Baldi's Basics Plus. Possibly the best one yet!
Major updates were mostly able to continue regularly as in 2024, with some huge new additions such as levels 4 and 5 and their associated new level types, and stickers. The game also got a much needed new gameplay trailer which seems to have brought quite a few new players to the game. With that in mind I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who purchased Baldi's Basics Plus this year, and of course to everyone else who continues to play and follow the game!
2025 also saw my trip to GDC, which led to me bringing Nayan Ramachandran onto the project as the project manager. Nayan has been a big help behind the scenes, and working with him is the most important thing that has changed this year. With his help the road to version 1.0 has been getting clearer than ever, and once we find a publisher and bring on more team members his work will become even more important.
2026 and Beyond
As the year has been nearing its end and as I've been working on the horizontal slice, I've been considering how best to go about finishing the game. There is still a lot of work to be done, and as well as the early access updates have been going, I've realized I've been neglecting to make meaningful progress on future development; the stuff intended exclusively for version 1.0.
Notably, I've been trying to complete the horizontal slice by the end of the year, and that was going quite well until I shifted gears to get stickers ready for release in version 0.13. I initially figured this would work well as I was already planning on adding sticker functionality as part of the horizontal slice, but ultimately it ended up slowing down progress a lot due to the fact I had to ensure stickers were release ready (And in some ways, they still didn't quite reach that point).
So with that in mind, I think we're nearing that time foretold in the development roadmap many years ago: The second update hiatus.
Recently I've started envisioning a pretty solid timeline for how I'd like the rest of development to go, and in order for that timeline to work out I'm going to have to stop doing the regularly scheduled major updates. I certainly don't want to take the steady flow of new content away from you all, but for the sake of finishing the game well I think this is a necessary change.
This means that 0.14 will be the last scheduled major early access update. Beyond that, major early access updates will become much more sparse and sporadic. I may still occasionally release major early access updates during the early access development period when it makes sense (For example, if new content that makes sense for early access happens to be finished it may get pushed out into an early access update), but it will no longer be something I plan around.
That said, I will still continue to post status updates approximately every two months. These updates will not delve too deep into dev progress, since I don't want to spoil things, but I will be sure not to leave you all in the dark during the update hiatus. With that in mind, I will be making some changes to Patreon memberships after 0.14 releases since pre-releases and podcasts will become much less common. I appreciate the additional support I receive through Patreon, but please do not feel obligated to stay subscribed for any reason! Only do so if you really want to.

Teasers like this and general updates letting you all know things are continuing to move along is the most I'll be able to guarantee from these status updates. Between spoilers and business stuff that may need to stay under wraps it could be hard to find things to share, but I will at the very least be sure to not go silent for an extended period of time.
Conclusion
I hope this news isn't too disappointing to anyone. The past couple of years have been a blast, but I think I'm ready to buckle down on wrapping up the project. This does not mean that it's close to being finished, there is still a ton of work to do. However, not only can I now see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I now also think I have a decent idea of how long it will take to get there.

FINALLY I HAD A SUCCESSFUL RUN! I finally beat all 5 floors again due to sheer luck. Floor 4 was factory and floor 5 was laboratory. I started floor 5 with 2 apples so that basically sealed the run. It was intense. I had to give up my second apple to get the final notebook, then ran to the two elevators that were in my current zone. The other 2 were in zone 4, so I entered the teleporter with Baldi right behind me, barely making it. Then I ran as fast as I could, with the principal unfortunately spotting me, but I got the 3rd elevator down. I was seconds from success, and I wouldn't give them up. I ran as fast as I could, making it with 2 minutes left on the timer. Baldi's Basics Plus on a Chromebook is something else.

This game just fucking hates me right now. Like I am getting playtime and beans every round, teleporters bring me to the exact spot I used them, the framerate randomly drops for no fucking reason, I'm having runs where almost no math machines spawn, and balloon buster always has a high number, playtime just seems to stalk me, Baldi keeps wandering into the same room he checked 50 fucking times already. Like I haven't had a successful run in a month cuz my luck is the lowest of low shit. Like my past like 50 runs could all be summarized by the same exact sentence: the worst possible things happen at the worst possible times, and it I can never even get good enough items or stickers that could help me. This game just fucking hates me.

This is just my two cents, but I had a sort of overly elaborate idea for a future Principal update / addition: Principal's Punish Land. When getting caught by the Principal, in the detention room you'll notice a portal on the back wall. Usually, when not being caught breaking rules, this portal is dark and inactive. But when stuck in detention serving time, the portal opens. The player can voluntarily enter the portal and be transported to Punish Land. While they're there, the main game time freezes, so Baldi won't get any closer to the office. Punish Land is a labor hub where students who have been sent to detention can work off their time, rather than sitting in the detention room to wait it out. You must perform certain tasks under supervision of the Principal, and you will earn YTPs for doing them. How much you are required to do has nothing to do with how much detention time you have total or remaining; jump in anytime before the detention door unlocks and you can complete a task. However, if you do extra good, you'll earn even more YTPs than usual. And if you get a perfect score, the Principal may even reward you despite the fact that this was a punishment, by giving you an item. Rarely will it be a high class item like an apple for Baldi, a grappling hook or a teleporter, but anything is possible. Usually it's more like a bsoda or a candy bar. Here are the different Punish Lands possible: Punish Bookland: this is a "dummy" library. with no exit doors, in the design of the old fashioned maze you removed from the game. The must pick up the books sitting on the table in the big open middle area of the library (where they start) and shelf the books in the right place quickly for points. Punish Foodland: a cafeteria with a long serving counter along a far wall. You must grab trays of food and run them to students who are signaling hunger with speech bubbles. If a mess is made, run to the janitor's closet that has been added to the far wall. Open the door, and this summons Gotta Sweep from out of the closet. He will auto-target any spills and return to the closet. Punish Leafland: It's the playground, but in autumn colors. You have a rake and must quickly scoop up and bag all those falling leaves. As an annoyance, Playtime is on the playground too and she loves playing in the leaf piles, which can mess one up and scatter its leaves a short distance around it. You can distract her before she does this by playing jump rope with her. After you finish whichever Punish Land assignment you chose, you will return to the detention room with the timer completely gone and you are free to leave immediately. Hopefully Baldi wasn't too close to the room when you first got sent there, or it could all be for nothing!

One headcanon I have for Baldi's Basics is about 1st Prize, specifically the question "What Micro Processor does he use?", I'd probably say the 6502 would be what 1st Prize uses. (Yeah it's a nerdy headcanon, but I was bored when I thought of this. Take that for what you will)

I didn't see anyone talking about the screenshot, so here are my theories. The screenshot could be: 1. subtitles in other languages with placeholders 2. new provisional posters/comics 3. a secret (I highly doubt it) 4. a new room 5. another educational activity (I 99% doubt it) or another activity that doesn't give you notebooks. 6. an unfinished structure. I might come up with more options.

Man I think I might struggle a bit without the status updates every two months... because sometimes it was all I had to look forward to every two months but that's okay because I've been here for every step of the development cycle and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon

Im not sure if i agree about never doing updates at all. I think you should still release them, just maybe not on a timed regualr plan. Espcailly if 1.0 is a good bit away like it seems to be.
