Marvelous Shop, Chapter 10
🕑 Added 2024-11-13 15:50:36 +0000 UTCThe rest of the day went well enough, I continued to sell a good bit of my non-permanent power-granting candies like the Electro Gumballs, the Winter Mint's and other things.
Thing's were fine and most importantly uneventful except for dumbass kids who thought they could steal from the store, and then they got teleported on top of the Empire State Building for their trouble.
A couple of customers tried their luck at taking the portal, and one of them got sent back immediately as he died like a bitch when he did... Something very stupid apparently when he took a portal to DXD.
Apparently foregoing the mission entirely, and joining with the fallen angels at the start of canon doesn't lead you to easy BDSM tits... Nope, it just leads to being impaled on a light spear.
So now said dumbass was pissed that he was banned from the portal for the next couple of months to let his soul heal. "I want a refund! No, I want to speak with your manager because this just isn't fair!"
My lips twitched as I looked at the latino dude and I said flatly. "Dude... For one, I am the manager so fuck you and the horse you rode in on. And secondly, you completely abandoned the mission of the portal system, you would have forfeited all rewards anyway."
Yeah, that was a pleasant thing to notice, so either way I just snapped my fingers as I connected to the Shop's operating system, and the dumbass was teleported... Into the middle of Los Angeles, California?
"Next!" I called out with a wide smile as the next man came up with a pack of Double Trouble Edible Condoms.
"Uhh, so are these... Like safe to use?" He asked curiously and my lips twitched as I saw he got the 'Red Hot' and fruit punch flavors.
I gave the guy a long look before saying calmly. "That red hot flavor is going to burn your partner on the inside... It's made for people who love the hurt."
His face twitched and he slowly pulled the Red Hot flavor off the table before he said. "I meant like... It won't break or have any holes in them will it?"
"It's made from gum... It stretch's very well." I said flatly and the man nodded and silently paid without another word thankfully.
But then the portal swirled to life again and I watched with a raised eyebrow as Hawkeye staggered out of the portal with a shudder along with his group of well-armed soldiers carrying several bag's filled with stuff behind them.
"Sound off, any injuries remaining!?" Hawkeye called out as he inspected his soldiers/agents. And then quickly denied any injuries with myself leaving the counter seeing as the customers were winding down with the closing time.
And the packed store only had people window shopping.
"So how did it go?" I asked curiously.
And Clint's face twisted into a confident smirk before he chuckled and said. "Wasn't too bad with those plasma grenades and the other grenades we had. A couple of the guys got tagged with some shrapnel but it seems everything really did get fixed up."
I nodded and then said. "Well I wish you guys the best with whatever you looted. Clint, you got my Laser RCW though?"
The archer nodded with him looking at one of the black-masked agents who was in full combat fatigues and almost fully covered in modern combat armor. "Hailbird, give the man what he wants." Clint ordered.
The man quickly and carefully put down his bag and my lips twitched seeing how it was stuffed to the brim with laser weapons and then I was just handed one of the Laser RCW's that looked exactly like a Thompson sub-machine gun.
"Alright, thank you very much... Thankfully the ATF doesn't have laws about direct energy weapons." I muttered as I threw the gun over my shoulder before I looked back to Clint who spoke.
"So has Natasha and Yelena got back yet?" He asked with curiosity.
And I blinked before I said with some actual amusement. "Nope, you beat them back... It is a bit odd they are taking longer though, as they had the bigger team. No one has died yet though and got sent back either."
But then just as I finished speaking my body twitched as the portal whirled back to life and the Black Widow's with their own soldiers/agents strode out of the portal.
"Haha, I beat you guys back eh Nat." Clint teased with the red haired beauty rolling her eyes as she stretched an arm and I noticed that her leather out fit over that shoulder had a large burn mark.
'Probably got tagged by a laser weapon.' I mused before I spoke aloud. "Alright, you guys probably got some goodies like souls and whatnot. If you want to buy more... Special goods, you know where to look. I am getting back to work while I consider myself where I want to go."
Then while working the counter I watched as the SHIELD members shared some form of hushed discussion with their soldiers not so subtly looking at me occasionally. But after a few minutes, Clint handed a briefcase over to Yelena which was probably the GECK they wanted to get.
Natasha came over with her hips swaying as I didn't have a customer asking questions like whether my exploding gumdrops could explode like firecrackers harmlessly inside someone had gluten of all things.
"So Jake, I was just curious... Do you have any plans to head into another portal relatively soon?"
And I knew she was laying down the seduction but I answered bluntly. "Yes, I will need way's to defend myself should I want to leave the shop's protection frankly. But not for a couple of day's at least as I need to chill out."
Which told Natasha two things. First I indeed planned on going on another mission relatively soon. But also that I wasn't some invincible work machine.
Either way Natasha smiled and she said leadingly. "Hmm, I see. Well here is my card, along with Clint's who you seem to be becoming friends with. If you want... Maybe we can work something out and head on a mission together perhaps?"
I considered it for a moment and then I shrugged as I knew the Shop would protect me and any other groups of internal betrayal so I said. "Alright I will give one of you a ring if I find something."
Because, wanted to pick up some form of magic or method to defend myself that had A- a lot of potential, and B- I could get relatively safely... Which really, really cut down the available options.
With that Natasha nodded and she turned around and left with Clint and Yelena with the soldiers surrounding them as they left the store. But as much as I wanted to watch the beautiful Black Widow's swaying backsides... I was distracted as that fat teenager came through the portal.
But he wasn't even fat anymore!

Good for that kid. I hope he is a repeat customer. I remember another book which had a similar character, a nerd who went into a perfectly simulated Fallout world, and came out a bad ass super soldier who can use Fallout's tech in the regular Marvel universe, and had several lifetimes of knowledge to fall back on. Became quick friends with Frank Castle, the Punisher.

Did Natasha get healed and now can get a baby that she wants? Also he should start to actually charge going to another world, as now he barely gets anything from this. Like the money is alright but what’s he ganna use it on other than the supply creates. And even then he can just go to that universes if he really wants something specific.

Honestly I'd save any Borderlands run until after a run that gave a powerset of some kind. Borderlands lore places a huge emphasis on the difference between normal people and vault hunters (or really, anyone bearing the title "Badass"). To the point that, between games 1 and 2, a squad of normal loader bots were able to clear out Fyrestone and New Haven without much resistance. Bots that the Vault hunters killed by the hundreds.
