Give Me Video Ideas!
🕑 Added 2024-03-21 22:29:33 +0000 UTCI’m creatively bankrupt and have run out of interesting concepts to make videos about. And being a YouTuber, I've decided that the best course of action... is to make a video about running out of video ideas.
So I'm asking people on Twitter, YouTube, and here on Patreon to give me ideas for video essays that you think I should make. Topics you want to see me cover. And then I'm gonna make a video covering all these topics that totally won't be called "Trying Your Terrible Video Essay Ideas" or something like that.
Go ahead and comment topics you want to hear me cover, and I might use them for a video! (I will not give you any credit)

I've enjoyed almost all of your videos (not an anime guy, so I skip most of those), but the ones that have really stood out for me are the analysis/meta of gaming structures. The video you did on fail states was the first I'd seen and it really blew my mind at how insightful it was on a subject I'd never really thought about but which is a HUGE part of game design and game playing. My suggestion: an analysis of tutorial - what makes some of them excellent and others confusing. e.g. the Red Dead Redemption II tutorial is one of the best I've ever seen, with skills presented, explained, and used in a flow that makes it easy to absorb each one before you're thrown the next. Contrast that with The Witcher III, which introduces you to every single sword-fighting AND magic attack in the same battle, in the space of about sixty seconds, and makes a complete hash of it.

Watch jobless reincarnation, and then make a video on how PEAK it is

i would love to see a video with your personal experience with evangelion. or about the rebuilds vs the original series

You said multiple good ideas at the end of the R34 vid, which is BTW how I found you out on YT. You seem tho have the knowledge and taking the adult entertainment industry well enough to tackle a lot of topics surrouding it. From smutty fanfiction to the crazy amount of money that never-finished patreon adult-games rake in every month. Not may content creators even try to cover that kind of content.

This is a stupid idea, but it would be nice to watch you do it. "I played 50 free to play games on Steam so you don't have to"

how about a video essay for deep dive on "video essay". I watch a lot of video essay and like a lot of video essay that i watch, that would be great to see history of video essay

How about a deep dive on the "bot" industry in video games?! I play an MMO (The Elder Scrolls Online) and the way the bots kinda ruin some aspects of the game has always had me curious how it affects other games, are they all indeed "Chinese bot farmers" (I know they all aren't... it's a stereotype type that kinda irks me) does it actually harm the "big corporations" (definitely has an effect on the in game markets!) and who is actually making money off the bot accounts. I've personally been wanting to look into this whole things for years!! But I never really put the effort into it myself. (I do have a friend fluent in Chinese btw, if you decide to pick up this topic and in fact come across any info/resources that bring you to China...)

there are literally zero (0) video essays about multi-lane fighting games. barely a footnote. it means a 2D fighter that you can sidestep in, i think Diesel Legacy Aggressors of Dark Kombat FF2 & Special FF3 RBFF & Special RBFF2 (& First Contact?) GG Isuka Naruto (Shippuden) Ultimate Ninja 1 2 3 4 5 Fullmetal Alchemist: Dream Carnival Onimusha Blade Warriors
Luna Sol
How about a video covering the topics of "self insert" characters, representation, and what it means to relate to fictional characters
Crocky_101
LovePlus games :o

shoutout the FlashPoint Archive as a way to play and archive all the flash games while it's still seeded well

Since you made a video on r34 animations and fanservice, it would be interesting to see another video along those lines talking about the history of adult games.

If you want to go down these rabbit holes: The history of dating sims (visual dating sims). // The history of demakes

Maybe a discussion on character creation in video games. I was thinking about how it's affected games' history, but the whole topic sounds very interesting and like it could have a lot of stuff surrounding it. Maybe that'd be interesting.

I don’t know if there’s actually a videos worth of content, but something on the history or significance of itch.io and other platforms (gamejolt, maybe humble bundle??) for indie games could be cool Or a video on why Valve released a string of bangers and have seemingly stopped, am I just tinged by nostalgia for these games? Am I intentionally ignoring the VR games they’ve released recently? Is there value in quitting whilst you’re ahead? Will we ever get a TF3?

Why Valve Hates Australia, Specifically. Or something on the the Shaved Head Muscle Man Video Game Protagonists Epidemic of the 2010s?

There was time when you planned the powerscaling video that would be fun video

Games that deserved sequels but never got them?

Structure of Tencent & other Chinese or even just Asian publishers. I have no idea how these companies actually function compared to Western ones.

The history of machinima would be interesting, I'm not sure if anyone's done a deep dive on it yet

Make a video about how modding makes games more successful, I would love to see a history of mods and such. They're basically the entire reason some game communities are even alive, and the reason some games are fun. Or do the face reveal pull off your face thing
Jeff
Just go off on a complete tangent and make several videos, each one parodying a different genre (let's play, drama tuber, podcast, sketch comedy, etc.)
Ian Flynn
Face reveal where you peel off your human face and show you're an anime girl vtuber underneath.
Sam Sillis
Do an anime tier list or a video that explains the different types of anime. I don't really know much about it having only watched the Macross Robotech series and Voltron so an in-depth video going through some or most of different types of anime and maybe a little bit on how they came to be. I know there is a lot so you could break it up into different parts.
Pickle
A video about EA Games buying out developers and then leading them into ruin with terrible creative and marketing decisions would be great.
K3rmit
Something on How cooperate greed kills games before they are released. Like Kidney said, games that get made a chore to force out as much engagement as possible. How a Story Driven game is killed at inception and its corpse being reanimated as LiveService Idk what I'm trying to say so don't know how you all would understand :S
azope
The history of eroge industry
Wowdude87
As I said on Twitter, a history of EA's turn to being a shitty company would be neat
T Peter
A sort of “Re:Logic vs Activision” thing? Blood will certainly be shed.

Something I’ve been thinking about lately if I made videos is on the top (insert number here) most influential or most important video games in history. It would sure be difficult, like, you can’t leave out pong or the OG super Mario, but you’d also probably want to include games like RuneScape, Minecraft, and overwatch. I think it would be interesting.
kidney vendor
Some ideas I thought of: -How much do gamers REALLY know about game development? -How good are retro games without the nostalgia? -When do games become chores? -What makes an anime rewatchable?
Fayette
How about how dragon ball has shaped the anime industry with it's creation.
Justin Bucher
Why are so many games failing on startup? (Xdefiant and Silent Hills) I feel we hear so many new games and are never able to play them or when they launch they’re crap
RoyalTfrii
Probably talk about censorship in media and games if you haven't already
Maple
The shifting boundaries between The Game Developer and the Gamer. Is more transparency a good thing, can it create a too many cooks in the kitchen scenario? where is the balance? e.g. Blizzard Dev/director Aaron Keller putting up public reports and giving hour long interviews with High Tier streamers to "clear the air"
BDown
It's probably a bit much to cover in a single video of any reasonable length, but in the vein of the fanservice and waifus videos, you could do something on the history of otaku.
Seth
I second this: as an older millennial, I'm starting to feel "out of the loop" when it comes to Internet trends, and I'd love to know more about how this whole VTuber things started and how it got so popular.
Jalen Rose
I’d love to see a video about magical girls and the wide spectrum they’ve been shown. From sailor to Bleach (yeah, some people say that). From the serious to the joke iterations
actually a dawg
I said it on the YouTube, but I'd be very interested in a history of moé in a similar vein to the r34 or waifu videos.
Graham Naquin
Get me the history of vtubers. I know they exist but why did it feel like They came out of no where? Are they always related to furries or only sometimes? Does this go all the way back to Minecraft letsplayers? Bonus point: It’s another excuse to put anime boobs in the thumbnail
RedstoneCanis
And their effect on the internet / culture at large maybe?
Brian Boddicker
Maybe a video on videogame representation in media
RedstoneCanis
Furries :3

Console War and why it's dumb.
