Thank you for sharing your raw emotions with us, Dave. It does help to hear someone else acknowledge the problems going on in our country when family and friends seem to be ignoring them. Another coping mechanism for me is listening to music. I've been listening to Ben Harper's Welcome to the Cruel World a lot during the pandemic. The album is from '94, but it plays as though it was written today. In the titular track he sings, "It's been cruel from the beginning, it will be cruel when we're done". For me, it's somehow helpful to know that things have always been bad. They may seem worse now (and they may actually be worse in some ways), but we as a species have always dealt with the same problems. I'm not sure why I find that helpful - I guess it just puts me at ease knowing the problems we're facing today are not necessarily unique. If nothing else, his down-tempo blues style and the trembling of his slide guitar helps to calm me down. At the end of the day, we do what we can to make the world a better place and "try to enjoy your stay".
