I agree with you. Since the campaign in Chechnya, we know Putin's way of doing things. But in 2004-2008, information circulated much more slowly than today, if only on the internet. Although I am a pacifist at heart, I know how to recognize that in our world, a military force can be the guarantee of peace. Nuclear weapons alone are no longer enough to keep the peace, unfortunately. By his madness, Putin has given new meaning to NATO and the European Union and I am completely in favor of the integration of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia into NATO and into the EU. They must become shields for these peoples against the Russian threat. What I also fear is Putin's repression of his own people. I really hope he gets knocked down.

I've felt uneasy about Putin ever since he came to power in the early 2000s. Even so, I thought he was just a fairly cynical autocrat with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. I didn't believe he was crazy enough to push the world to the brink of disaster like this, even though the signs were there from the brutality of his Chechen campaign. What the Ukrainians are going through is horrifying, and it has to stop. Putin should not be able to just hold a gun to the worlds head while he gets away with murder! I think nuclear deterrent has failed. We need denuclearisation now.

Thank you very much for your post. Me who lives in France and having my sister who lives in Poland, I watch the events in Ukraine very very closely. I feel like we've gone back 80 years. I would like the European Union and NATO to go further to stop Vladimir Putin's madness.
