I'd argue there's a difference between selectively choosing facts, vs. fabricating events that didn't actually happen.

Interesting and deep take. Appreciate you have followed it more closely than me. However - to say reporters emphasize facts and that’s ok is that same as having a comic emphasize facts. Both are some degree of mis representation. Sadly or the way it is - we all have a strong tendency to minimize and manipulate to our egos advantage.
