I think it's more like... Khampa feels his leg, then the boy worries and Khampa assures him he's okay, while KK asks him to go easy and rest. Then on the final panel the boy is already sleeping, as Khampa and KK were talking for a while. The last bit you said about him processing the information is definitely true, though. <3 He's more, like, sad/angry/jealous that his son is growing up and probably going away soon.

I love the little detail of him immediately assuming that the little sheep boy saved, then looking reserved when KK tells him that HE saved him. You can really see him processing the information, a little bitter, a little embarrassed.

I’m guessing some bridges are about to be mended, like poor Khampa’s leg. It’ll be rickety at first, but things will get better! :)
