Chasing Sunsets Dev Update - And a Look Ahead

The dev cycle is starting to head into its final stretches now!
As of tonight, we have just shy of 1500 renders complete with between 3-500 to go.
There are two remaining scenes to create art for, including a lewd one, and animations are nearing the 50% complete mark.
This weekend will be the first look Kent and I have of the art and dialogue coming together into an integrated whole as the v0.9 binary transitions into a playable framework.
As stated before, this is trending to be a larger chapter than the last one, and we're working hard to pull all of the pieces together and avoid any continuity gaps.
Our best estimate on a chapter release is between the end of September and mid-October, if all goes smoothly!
In addition to the Chapter 8 update, I'd also like to tease our next project, tentatively called "Firebreak."
Here's what I can share about it so far:
- We plan to keep the story in the same universe with some crossover characters from Chasing Sunsets
- We're looking at a different approach to episodic releases which will hopefully makes each update more self-contained
- It will feature a male MC
- While the game will be story-driven, there will be more potential LIs, including some who were not LIs in Chasing Sunsets
This is where we take some of the lessons we learned from Chasing Sunsets and apply them in a way that makes the long wait between updates more bearable.
We also recognize that while slow burns have their place, (we will certainly include them in Firebreak), these are called Adult Visual Novels for a reason. We thought a lot about a story vehicle to deliver more of that kind of content convincingly earlier in the game without cheapening or overcomplicating the relationships with ladies you may like, but find less interesting.
We're super excited to be approaching the end of one story, but even more excited to share that the tale of the friends we made along the way won't necessarily end with the last sunset!

Thanks for that looking forward to next chapter as really enjoyed previous chapters build up and looking forward to character developments with female protagonists and fall out of vinny by taking knife deeper to kill him hope going to be a good one shame not going to be next week as was hoping for my birthday as long as going to be near end of month will be great thanks for all you've done so far looking forward to further developments

There aren't nearly enough AVN's with female protagonists. Hope you will consider this for some future project. CS is wonderful with some strong well developed female characters. Not quite the same though eh. Looking forward to the end and the new.

Yeah y'all probably have one of the best AVN's around. It's very easy to trust y'all with the direction, like trusting a pilot on an airplane.

great update guys, and as far as the "AVN pacing" goes, I think Chasing Sunsets actually has it pretty spot on, for a visual novel. I think it could use a bit more LIs but then it also might take away from the branches, so that's always a tough task. excited for this episode and for the future Kent is the goat as I keep saying <3

The game is great, personally I feel you already nailed the balance between story/action/lewds. Would not mind 3-4 LIs total, instead of 2, although more than that usually means that the content get diluted too much, or the dev has to do a LOT of branching, thus slowing down considerably every release. For the new game, I hope that Tara and Mallory's blunt and sexy friend will become LIs, there's much much potential there it would make for a great story!

I’m currently playing through again and honestly I felt like you guys nailed the pacing as far as adult stuff goes, personally. I know that’s just a personal preference but as long as y’all can ace the story and character writing the way you did in this one, I’m willing to wait. It’s weird to say this about an AVN, and don’t get wrong I think the erotic scenes are excellent, but I absolutely play Chasing Sunsets for the story.

3-500 renders seems like a large margin! On a serious note, very excited for the next chapter and looking forward to your new game as well. I enjoy the slow burn, and when there's a a sex scene within the first 60 seconds of the first episode it always feels a little out of nowhere. I've seen games have it be a dream sequence or a scene from the past with an ex that didn't feel quite as forced. Just my 2 cents though, you guys are the experts.
