Boycotting Patreon hurts your favorite creators more than it hurts Patreon.
🕑 Added 2018-12-20 02:34:19 +0000 UTCIt came to my attention today that some of my Patrons had pulled their support because they disagree with what Patreon is doing during the latest drama.
Whatever your view of it, I can't fault you for standing up for your beliefs. BUT... Patreon makes a paltry 5% fee on what creators publish here. So, in order to take that 5 cents per dollar out of Patreon's hands, you are taking 95 cents per dollar out of the creators' hands. That is a lot of collateral damage.
Please think about that before you pull the plug. That's all I ask.

What he's trying to say is that if someone bails to punish Patreon, they are hurting him and other creators more than they are hurting Patreon itself. Because for every Patron that bails, Bernal loses $6.65 on the $7 tier, and $14.25 on the $15 tier and so on. And at 5 cents per dollar, Patreon only loses 35 / 75 cents respectively. And I can understand his point.

If you are a conservative, right leaning, or do not agree with leftist views, or you say a bad word on any other media platform that has NOTHING to do with Patreon, Patreon will terminate your account without warning. So they banned high profile YouTuber Sargon of Akkad without warning because he used the F*G word on a stream more than 8 months ago. Many people were outraged and are now bailing on Patreon for being unclear on their TOS. Funny how their "Trust & Safety Team" doesnt ban the account of violent domestic terrorist group Antifa.

Bernal, I can understand why you don't patrons to bail, but if I were you, I would look for alternate funding sources. The PC Police at Patreon can terminate your account at any time for anything they feel you have done wrong in the past. Or they might go Dumblr and ban all the pron!

Better have a backup plan, it's likely they purge Patreon of NSFW content like tumblr did in the future.
