HUB Reality
🕑 Added 2018-12-20 01:49:24 +0000 UTCI've already posted multiple variants how the hub world could look like, but such is the life of any designer - always keep iterating and improving.
With our new mission-based approach to reality exploration, we need a hub area, where friends can meet up and spend some time relaxing after an adventure and preparing for the next one: heal up injuries, eat some delicious things, customize the character, craft provisions, interact with NPCs, etc...
Initially I planned to make the hub area by ripping a chunk of land off Interspace and transform it into a floating island, but honestly it didn't look nor feel that cozy and welcoming.
This is the part I wanted to rip and make it into a hub... Even though the lighting would change and become bright and sunny, it still wouldn't make it feel homely.
"So, how it could be done better?", I thought, and as usual, closed my eyes and started exploring various realities in my head... Well, this is the result of that! It couldn't stay in my memory for long, so I had to paint it to remember and, of course show it to you!
This circular platform is suspended in the sky above the reality you travel to, and even though you can see the world below you, you can't fall down - an invisible forcefield barrier lets you walk in the air, but not fall. To visit the reality you still have to use the Gateway, located in the middle.
Situated on all four different direction from the center are buildings for different disciplines of knowledge in the game (and perhaps Dragon NPCs too). Here is some more quick and alternative concept art of those:
Pleasure Treasury (I'm not sure to keep this name, what do you think of it?)
The first accessible building, home for the Gatekeeper, where she happily shares her horny dragon secrets of life with other players. It's a place to hang out in a very cozy romantic environment and delve into knowledge and research related to food, sex, fetishes, and other dragon pleasures.
Grove of Evolution
Place of all organic technology, biology, genetic modification and evolution. Here be tentacles...
Solar Forge
Place of craftsmanship, molecular replication, weaponry, protection and ancient dragon technology.
Ancestral Archive
Temple of knowledge. All the realities you visit are recorded here. Like the rest, this place opens up another route of progression, more akin to magic.
Aside from the buildings, at each 45 degree angle to their sides, there are circular portals (waypoints) that lead to those floating platforms in the distance - those might very well become player houses in the future, still unsure about that part but I'd love to give players an opportunity of having their own place.
The rest of the area is a plaza with some space for future use and patreon reward statues, instead of displaying all of them at once, there is only 8 of them, and they change from time to time.
Around the perimeter there is a water pool, which might open up access to the under-surface area of the hub (still thinking about that), and give access to some basic food to fish for.

the Gateway of Realities
Its probably not going to be related to Interspace level, but if you look at the concept art there are floating islands in the clouds faintly visible - those can be the player houses. There can be as many of those as it needs to be, such as when many players are connected to the server, each has their house appear there. And yeah, adding progression to home customization is of course a very logical thing to do :}

Looks fantastic. About the player house idea, as soon as you mentioned "ripping a chunk of land off interspace" Immediately began thinking that there'd be some way for the player to customize, morph, or otherwise play with it. Perhaps using the idea of giving the player a small chunk of interspace to play around with and use various research and technology to help the player in making it their own. In short, "mom" gives the player a little chunk of land and says "go wild", it's up to the player to gather the knowledge and materials to make said chunk their own, perhaps even growing it larger than the paltry piece we're given at the start.
